RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Theres some people that just want to argue for the sake of arguing. And still others that wont change their opinions for anyone no matter what. I don't make a practice of arguing with antis, although I will answer letters to the editor, and such when I see incorrect information being passed about hunting. I'm a member of several clubs, and I try my best to be a good person so that I represent hunters in a positive light. There are people I know, and even some in my own family, that don't like hunting. However I don't make a practice of arguing with them. I think that would just make them hate it/and me, all the more. I have had some of the non hunters that I know personally that have told me they don't think I am like most hunters, and that they somewhat understand my love for it. Keep in mind not all non hunters are antis. And these are the ones I would like to be a good influence on the most. Thats why I don't try to push it in their face. I answer questions when asked, but I do not seek out confrontations.
I have a cousin that hates hunting. One year while our families were gathered together for Christmas dinner she made the statement to me, across the dinner table yet, that she thought someone that showed such a love for the outdoors such as myself would have grown up to be something better than a hunter. Everyone at the table stoped talking in an uncomfortable silence while they awaited my response. I must say she caught me a bit off guard. I don't like being the center of attention, but I got up from the table and pulled out a book from my book shelf. The "Yukon Writings of Jack London", turned it to a story called "In the Forests of the North", and handed it to her. Then I recited a paragraph from the story. "When I creep through the snow upon the great moose I am glad. And when I draw my bow so with my full strength, and drive the arrow fierce and swift to the heart I am glad. And the meat of no mans kill tastes as sweet as the meat of my kill. I am glad to live. Glad in my own cunning and strength. Glad to be a doer of things. A doer of things for myself. Of what other reason to live than that? Why should I live if I delight not in that which I do? And it is because I delight and am glad, that I go forth to hunt and fish. And it is because I go forth to hunt and fish that I become cunning and strong. The man who stays in the lodge by the fire grows not cunning and strong. He is not made happy in the eating of my kill, nor is living to him a delight. He does not live! Then I sat down and ate my turkey. To this day she has not said another thing to me about my hunting:) The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend |
RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said artist. Just as the slogan says on The Outdoor Channel "Pass it on". I have taken my seven year old daughter with me almost every weekend for the past two seasons, and have reaped priceless benefits from the quite small investment of my time, and numerous mornings of seeing absolutely no deer due to eye opening conversations, and way too much movement in the stand" She has taught me so much about what I have seldom paid attention to while out hunting. I now can see the forest, and the trees. In other words we both have gained an appreciation for the outdoors, and nature. I now take a camera with me, and spend about as much time taking pictures as hunting while on stand. My Great grandfather has blessed us with a lifetime of memories as a guide, and hunter with a huge collection of photographs from Vermejo Park in the 1930's to Montana in the 1960's. These are the things that will stick with a child for a lifetime. Material things are not always the solution. Time with children, outside in general is what we should concentrate on. These kids are our future. Just imagine chances are that if a person takes his or her kid or kids hunting, fishing, and scoouting. This same child will likeley share these same experiences with their children and friends. What an investment. Multiply the hunting population by lets say 1.5% for an average family with two children, and in 18 or 20 years with time well spent we can all sit back in our rockers, and watch them planting food plots with our grandchildren. RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
didnt point a finger? bowdacious when you said this
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
What I saw from the plight of the kids in Nebraska and the response we got on trying to raise a few lousy bucks to help these kids was repulsive...I was, Frankly embarrassed...and I REALLY,REALLY appreciate those of you that did something...but, for those of you that did nothing....SHAME ON YOU!!!!

you did exactly that....you pointed a finger at everyone who didnt join the Nebraska cause and said you were replused, embarrassed, and ashamed of/by them. And then in a later post you say
quote:
If the shoe fits, wear it!

C'mon dude lighten up abit...yer a moderator here...I think everyone understands what you were getting at but you were a little over zealous on the keyboard. The list of people and orginizations asking for 'just a dollar or two' is an endless one and I could probly give away many hundreds of dollars a year if I gave to them all. I kinda like Ted...I think we need people like him around to stir things up abit....his type offsets the sit back and do nuthing types I think...or atleast tends to get them up and doing sumthing. I dont know that I would choose him as the hunters 'head spokeman' tho ** I almost got him but I refuse to take a marginal shot ** |

When I encounter this argument I always say...If you are an anti-hunter you'd better be a vegitarian. To allow others to do the killing and have it provided to you on styrofoam is a sign of weakness.

RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Bo, You struck my nerve too. I did not give a couple measly dollars, I give something more valuable, my time, and my shop services. All kids and teenagers get free shooting lessons from me when they come into my shop, don't matter if they bought a bow from me or just a hand-me-down. I also have an open door policy for kids who want to learn how to bowhunt, any time I'm not with a customer I'll give them pointers and tell them how to set up for deer. Alot of the kids dads rifle hunt, but haven't got a clue about setting up for a close encounter with archery equipment. I charge nothing for this, it's my way of giving back to the sport I love.

RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next time some one post a topic like" what's happened to the board"or " why are people leavin the board"?
just remember topics like this. this board has not, nor will it ever change, as long as members, even MODERATORS, put themselves in the --listen to me, I'm more important than most- or-- I asked for a measly few bucks, and you people that didn't give are not an important part of this board- catagory. this is the kind of crap that made me decide to start lookin for other boards. and I'm proud to say that I've found a couple that want put themselves above others on the board, and you don't get bashed if you choose to hunt little different, or choose to use a particular weapon, where as on here you would be called an unethical hunter. I still enjoy visiting huntin.net, because this was the first board i came to when i got my first computer, and I've made quite a few friends here. I just wish there wadn't so many hollier than thou attitudes here. daytona 500 winner- Ward Burton go Cat-22 |
RE: I am getting a little UPSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aunt Sue and Uncle Steve would leave with some hurt feelings if they broke that B#@# S@$%$ out of one of my family reunions. Who the h@#$ do they think kills the animals at the supermarket. Do they think the tooth fairy drops them off? Nope they probably had their throat slit and bled to death. I don't need to hire a hit man to do my killing for me. You might try pointing out to them that it is God's plan for us to kill and eat animals:
Genesis 9 Verse 3 God said to Noah "All moving things that liveth shall be meat for you." Genesis 27 Verse 3 "Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons,THY QUIVER AND THY BOW,and go out to the field and take some venison." Acts 10:12-13 “Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter, kill, and eat." I have no respect for someone who will criticize me hunting and then turn around and pay someone to kill for them. Protect your hunting rights, "Spay or neuter a liberal." |
