Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
I was tempted so here it is.My trrrrrrrrrrriggger finger and personal standardwas in questionon another thread soI am going to back it up.
If you or I shoot a scrub buck that is not up to your minimum commitment you stillhave toreport and post it! Ripping Will be Allowed, BIG TIME! Archery Only, all legal. No fenced hunts. Fair chase. Commitment Post your standard for the Whitetail Buck you will shoot this season. You will be held to this. Gross P&Y Score. No net after drying etc, we will not have time for that. Gross. No body weight. Some dont have scales. Proof/Confirmation Picture of you with animal, bloody arrow(prefer more than one angle) Short story of hunt/kill. Oneother testimonial from buddy. Honor System. If you lie I hope you get banned for life. Or in timeout. I know this will get old on the forum before the killing seasonbut maybe a mod will work with us. Make it aSticky. Maybe. Consideringsightings and animals on your property you can adjust your standard prior to theSEP. 1 cutoff. We can alsodo a Ears Tip to Tip measurementon Trophy Doe also. Mine last year was 16.5 inches! REMOVED: Places and prizes have been removed. Several participants recommended we do this for commitment and backing up yo' talk reasons. This will be a RIPPING onlyprogram. We are all good at that. But the Team Void shirt is still up for grabs. |

Why not....125"

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
I dont have standards, I shoot deer & eat 'em. If its got antlers it get a either sex tag, if it dont it gets an antlerless tag.
I guess, if I could only shoot one, I might look at it different,,,,,,,,, but I doubt it.;) |

Wait for it.... 64" (Tennessee)...Is that mature enough to win soemthing? |
RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
I thought this was a pretty neat idea, doesn't seem to be catching on too much.
I find it funny case I'm sure EVERYONE knows that guy who sees big buck after big buck over the summer. You'd think there was one behind every tree talking to him. Season comes and he shoots a small 5 pt first week. :D And back when I was 1st into letting bucks pass, my girlfriend teased the crap outta me that I'd get itchy and drop one. I know I'm well over that hump of caving, but she still likes to tease. But for me, I can't 100% say a rack score will do it. If I think the buck is 3.5+ I'm shooting. Most likely that would mean a 120+ buck....but oddities, broken points, happen & I'm not accounting for that. |

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
Im going to say 125. But heres somethign else you should add to the rules. No game farm deer allowed. All deer must be 100% wild and fair chase. I could easilly go the game farm that I visit once in a while and take out a 200+ class buck and smoke the competiton. Every deer I have shot has been off my own property 100% wild and fair chase.

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
No contest, no rules. Just state your minimum standards, and if you shoot something less, you agree that others can tease you. :DNice and simple.

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
Wow I didn't expect this thread to start so early...It's tough to make an estimate now as I don't know what's going to be on the properties that I hunt (or additional lands that may be acquired).Late summer scouting sessions will firm up my numbers and could influence them dramatically.
But I can say this the Buck I take in OHIO will be above 125" This number hopefully will increase based on late summer sightings and video footage. |

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
See here's the rub....(and yes...I'll post a score).
THE deer I'm after, this season.....is at least 4.5 yrs old. He STILL won't go (I don't think) 100". He's a big 'ol bodied bruiser, though (for these parts)....and I consider him a trophy worthy of the wall. I might see a larger antlered deer (and, who knows, maybe a larger BODIED deer)....but I have my eyes on this ONE. I ALSO liked this statement by Rybo.... But for me, I can't 100% say a rack score will do it. If I think the buck is 3.5+ I'm shooting. But.....I have to use the buck I'm after's "likely" score.....so....I think he'll go at least 90". That's my score I'll hold out for. This will be my first season letting anything like that pass. I know what some of you guys MUST go through every year.....seeing much smaller deer posted in the contest thread.......and watching deer pass on a regular basis. I guess this is part of "maturing" as a hunter (If hunting large racked deer is your forte'......NOTHING wrong with shooting younger deer). It should be interesting. I'd take a big 'ol goose egg to witness my son let the air out of one!;) |

RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
I'll sign up. 100" and/or 3.5 years old.
Last year I had some awesome encounters with some truly good bucks (for PA/NY) in the 120-130" range and ended up shooting one well below what I really wanted. I don't regret it, it was an awesome hunt and the buck really put on a great show for me and I ended up with a double header that morning with my best hunting buddy, but I do wish I would have held out for something bigger because I know the bigger deer were there. I know 100" isn't a huge deer for a lot of you but it would be my biggest with a bow and I think an attainable goal. When hunting APAJaws place this year I may wait for something bigger than 100", the age structure there is much more mature than anywhere I have ever hunted, I was able to encounter 3 different bucks last year @ 3.5 years and god only knows how many 2.5 year olds that we know survived. **Edit - I'm not making any promises on does. There are too many on my place in PA, if it is at least 1.5 years old I am shooting everyone I can legally, and I am hoping Rob / PA can come up and shoot a few too. I would like to get 4 off the property this year if I can between myself, Rob, and my bud Dan. |
RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
Ok, this thread is great I think, should be a good time if we can keep it light.
Illinois : 125" or better (only my second season hunting...and so far I have no properties to hunt for bucks, just a couple doe-only areas.) Ontario: 120" U.P. of Michigan : 8-points or better Doe: Never measured between the ears, so I'm not sure what a big one is...but I'll say 14", sounds reasonable. |
RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
I’ve got a few;
- Buck during bow season 120”. - Buck during any season, wounded, chased down on foot and murdered with a knife in a brutal, dirty fight to the death. - 3 doe, all mature 12” to 14”. Any legal deer, still hunting on the ground with bow. |
RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
Oh as for Doe...NO spots but young and tender! I don't want no mature doe for my table fare.. I plan to take 3.
|
RE: Official "Here is My Standard" Registration Thread
If its a slick head....its a slick head. I do not discriminate.
My standard is that for me to shoot anything other than a "cull" meaning very odd growth, crippled or spike rack.....the deer will be of trophy size and go on the wall. For me, thats about 125+ with a bow. There is one exception however....I have always wanted to shoot a BIG 6pt buck. I don't know why. But if a 6pt with good mass and outside the ears comes out....he's toast. |
