I don't shoot young bucks but don't criticize anyone who does? The sport is about the hunt not the trophy. If it makes you get the shakes(Buck Fever), it can't be wrong.

I shoot first then I check their ID to see how old they are.

Depends on your intentions and goals. Varies.

It alsodepends on headgear. I have never said,

"Boy he is a dandy 140" deer but so young and a little body. I am going to let him get a little older and a bigger body."

My goal is 140 orbetter. No matter the age or body. Just being honest.

wonderful point-- i was just re-reading this and it seems alot of us are thinking a 3 year old deer is fully mature. and who am i to say he isnt. but i do know that same deer on minerals and feed supplements will growalot in a given year and at 4 or 5yrs will have alot larger rack than he would have had with no supplements.

i have a 145 incher that was aged at 2.5 years want pics?

I think it would be interesting if everyone in the archery contest set a minimum on what to shoot, let say >120". Never going to happen but lets say we did. The amount of deer entered would probably go down initially but do you think it would gradually go up each year after if we kept the same standards and people involved?? I think it would
I think that would be great. At sign-up people post what class buck they arelooking for. We could see who sticks to self imposed guidelines. Of course the selection would vary due to State, land access, etc etc...

Even better, GR8attat2d, we could see who not only talks the talk, but walks the walk!

We need a "What is Your Standard to Shoot" thread. Taking location, number of posts, and starsetc. into consideration.
