What;s the difference between 3-49's and 3-71's (and for goodness sakes don't say "22"..lol)? Is it weight?

Let's say I was gonna get a few a/c/c's made up to just hunt whitetails with, this fall. 71lbs. draw weight on the Ally.....29" draw....and I think my arrows are 27-1/2". What arrow would I get? I don't mind a heavier arrow AT ALL.....and I'm wondering what would be the DOWN side of choosing the heavier arrow.

I shoot Beman Max-4's and love them. Im sure they arent the best, but i like them.

Jeff forever until this year.. Arrows in Idaho had to weigh 400 grains min to be legal. So I used the 3-71 since its a little heavier and for spine on my 80lb set up.

There is no downside to using a heavier arrow.

Technical difference is actually spine. They happen to weigh more too with the stiffer spine because there is more material. Assuming you are using 100 grains up front, you want a 3-60 spine ACC. A 3-60 w/ blazers and 100 grains up front at 27.5" will end up right around 400 grains total weight.

Did they have arrow weight check stations:D

I like Carbon Express Arrows. Matrix 350 hunteris what I am testing right now and I really like them.

Yesuntil recently in the units I huntedthey had manditory check stations for elk, our bows had to be 65% let off arrows had to weigh in at 400 min

I'll be shooting a 125gr Muzzy......and the heavier the better. Would there be a down side to shooting the 3-71's?

I'm looking for more like a 475gr. arrow!!...lol

I'd have to disagree with that. For guys out west they need a balance of good weight to maintain momentum and decent speed since shots tend to be longer. If an arrow is extremely heavy the drop on from 40 to 45 yards will be significant. Having a flatter trajectory could be the difference between a clean kill or a clean miss.

I've been using ACC 3-49s for several years now and can't think of a better arrow. My arrows are fairly short (26") so they are a good spine even at 68 lbs. of draw. If I were going to hunt bigger game I would look at heavier arrows, but for deer I am around 375 grains and that is more than good enough for me.
