RE: Truck For Germ - Poll

I had a 2002 ZR2 extended cabp/u with the 4.3 litre Vortec. I put 160k on it,and never did anything but brakes, and tires--oil chnages of course! I had a new 95 Toyota Tacoma 4wd extended cab and had to have the front end rebuilt, and a head gasket--with less than 20k!!! It was the first year of the new design, and , according to the dealer, the front end was a design flaw--the front end and the weight of the vehicle were not balanced, causing vibrations, and it would eat up the front tires in bout 7k miles as a result. To their credit, they gave me a full sized replacement vehicle, rebuilt the front end, added heavier springs, and even replaced a cassette player because it ate a tape! I had the replacement vehicle for 3 months, since the replacement parts weren't available yet, being a new model. When they were finished, they put a whole new set of tires on the truck, although the front ones were teh worn ones--and gave me the choice of tires!

I would stay away from the late 90's or early 2000's GM smaller suv type or pick-ups unless they've had the tranny replaced. I know too many guys with 1996-2000 that have had tranny problems once 85k-100K miles.

I myself have a 2000 Blazer ZR2 it's been a great ride I have99,000+ miles on it. (only owner) and yep 2nd-3rd gear is slipping Estimate from yesterday is $1650 to fix. My cousins 96 tranny went. A buddy in bow league spent $2200 on his 2001 tranny..and a guy I golf with has a 2000 with the same problem as mine with 90K miles.

The tranny guy saysGMS of the lighter class are plagued with this weak transmission problem.
Yes I wrote software to test those:D I believe you have the 4L60E tranny.

If they were made in Mexico or Romulus plant look out[:@] I believe Romulus is shut down now.

Get a new chevy... you'll love it... I just got one 2 months ago.. its awesome.

Do these new Z71 Chevys come standard with a factory lowering kit these days or what??? You couldn't pay me to drive a 4x4 that low to the ground.

Ford Super Duty - Nuff said. Solid front axle, enuf room from factory to clear 35" rubber - can still get the 4x4 lever on the floor where its supposed to be.

:D
