It's funny.....

I saw a few deer in the woods while turkey hunting this Spring. Lisa and I went out with friends on Saturday night......and we saw several deer coming out of my hunting area. I forgot something....and had to return home.....and when we came back through.....I saw a HOSS coming out of one of my hunting spots.

Yeah. I'm getting pumped.

I was also talking to the guy who'll be taxidermying my '07 bird. he hunts a lease on the other side of the parks system (buffer in between us that no one can hunt). We shared stories of the deer we saw last year.....and agreed that there are likely deer that grow old and die in "our" area that people NEVER see. He told me of some of the deer he saw last year.....and I told him of the ones I saw.

I think we BOTH left that conversation pumped about this coming season.

It's gonna be my first bowhunt in 15 years. I freakin' stoked. I killed my last 3 elk within 30 yards, and now I'm going up with a bow during the rut. I also picked up some private property in eastern Colorado for my deer hunt. I can only kill a doe with my bow this year but who cares!

COME ON SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!: ): )

It's not that big (200+ acres).....but there's also an adjacent 200+ acres that only sees the landowner and his brother hunt that tract. My buddy's lease has only 2 hunters on 120 acres.

There's really NO REASON for these deer to leave this area. They have EVERYTHING they need in this relatively small area......Food; Water....and plenty of cover (And LOTS of does!).

I saw the buck I took on 12/9 only twice before I shot him. My buddy never saw him. He shot a buck last year that had a cowhorn on one side....and an antler that resembled a ram's on the other. I never saw that deer. There were 2 10-pointers killed off this land that I never saw....nor did I have trail cam pics of.

These deer don't HAVE to travel. Luckily for us....they do a LITTLE.

The bucks will travel along ways to seek some hot does, could be you've never seen these bucks because there new to your area! Which is good, because you killed one!
