What do you consider.... (big buck)

I was curious whatyou guys consider a......"good buck", a "bigbuck", and a "monster buck" based on the P&Y scoring system?

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

Right now, in my woods a "good buck" would be 100 or bigger, "big buck" 130 or bigger, "monster buck" 150 or bigger.

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

I would say in my area anything over 130" would be a "good buck." And anything over 150" would be a "monster buck."

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

Well, here in the state of Arkansas a mid 120 is a good buck. Abig buck would be in the 140's an a monster would be from 150 to 170's. We have had a few bucks that went from 165's an up to the biggest being 187. I thinks those days are slim now because we now longer havebean fields. I am speaking for around our camp in SW Arkansas.

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

In my area of NY a buck that is close to 100" is a "good buck", 100" to 120" is a big buck, and anything over is a "monster" but rare.

Not an exact science, but I would call 125-140 a good buck, 140-170 a big buck, and it has to be booner to be a monster.

By the way, what is your breakdown, Buckeye?

Mine is very similar to yours.....

I would call 120-140 a good buck..... 140-160 a big buck..... and 160 plus a monster.

For me, a good buck would be a respectable 8 point....80+ inches. Big buck would be 130+, and a monster is 160+.....

NOT that I've ever seen one though...[&:]

120 - 135 is a good buck.

135 - 155 is a big buck.

155 plus is a monster.

Our area runs heavy on 4 pts ( WC ).A 140 or better is a monster here.

Ditto, but everyone knows they don't come that big in Ohio. You have to go to Florida for those size.

130 - 150, great buck.

160+, monster.

Mulie;

160 - 170, good buck.

170 - 180, great buck.

160+ monster, everything else is a great buck no matter what especially with a bow.

Honestly my ranking system is Deer ,Buck, Holy Sh!t. But as defined by P&Y I'd say 130 is good (or big)150+ is Monster.

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

In my state (NC) our bowhunting association (NCBA) recognizes any buck over 100" as a "book" buck. I'll concur that a 100" buck in MY part of the state is, indeed, a GOOD buck.

I've never seen one that would go over 100" (other than the one I took, las year). It's hard for me to have an opinion on "great" and "monster".

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

I would say that a nice buck is 100-115, a big buck would be somewhere in the 115-130 and a monster buck would be anything over that. Hopefully this year i will show you all what a superduper monster looks like!:D

That is exactly what I would say.

Statistically it is a genetic freak that even has the potential to get over 160. So, to get one over 160 not only do you have to be in the right place because of skill, you have to be lucky that one like that is even around.

HuntingBry 05-15-2007 07:28 AM

RE: What do you consider.... (big buck)

I would agree with Buck Magnet as well. 110-125 is good, 125-150 is big (150 is REAL big), and anything above that is a monster. We've got the genetics and the food here, but the age structure is lacking.

"110-125 is a good buck, 125-145 is a big buck, anything over 145 is huge to me"

That's about how I put em too for my area.

Now if I was talking all encompassing whitetails across the country, I'd put 125-140 good buck, 140-165 BIG buck, 165+ monster buck.
