Realtree AP open pattern?
I've been thinking about getting one of the open patterns of camo like, asat, enigma, or predator and was wondering how the new realtree pattern compares? Has anybody tried it yet?
|
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
AP has the same blob issues of all the other Realtree and Mossy-Oak patterns. Predator and Intrusion are better!

While we're at it, my truck is better than yours, my girlfriend is hotter than yours, and my dad can beat up your dad. :D

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I think realtree's new pattern is a step in the right direction for them. Its not open enough for some peoples tastes, but I'm sure they will sell a ton of it.:D
|
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I too think the new pattern is pretty sweet. Lots of Enigma/Predator/ASAT lovers on here that would never give it any credit, but I don't think you will be sorry for buying your realtree. They must be doing something right since the people they sponsor seem to kill some huge deer and plenty of people I know do well, despite their blobby camo.

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I also believe that the new Realtree AP pattern is a step in the right direction! It's far better than previous pattern from the companyand waaaaayyy better than something like the blobed out MOBU that many folks seem to swear by. I plan on having several articles of AP in my wardrobe this season. I started by orderingthe Scent-Lok Full Season jacket and bibs in AP.

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I also like the pattern alot. I've already ordered some scent-lok in the pattern as well(timber fleece 360) .
|
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I think its RealTree's best pattern yet in all honesty. Yeah, I would bet they sell quite a bit of clothes from this new pattern.
|
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I am in interested in it enough to give it a shot once I see it priced reasonably in a fabric I prefer. I agree that it is a step in the right direction for them.

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
It all depends on who manufactures it and the material they use. Gander Mtn. sells a water resistant microfleece suit in Realtree AP that is very open and has a much lighter background so the contrast is better, but I am not paying $200 for an outfit of which the pants have no cargo pockets and no zipper. Besides that, paying that much money for an outfit made in China irks me!!!

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I think Coug hit the nail on the head as far as how the pattern transfers to a particular material... The articles of clothing I've seen so far (from Wal-Mart to Gander Mountain) look to be nothing more than a washed-out version of Hardwoods HD... From what I've seen, the pattern doesn't offer NEAR enough contrast to suit my tastes to break up the human outlline. I'll stick with my Predator.

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
We've been using it this spring (APG) and you've seen the results :D
I think it works great when hunting from natural cedar blinds...cant wait to try it early season for deer! |
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I am an open pattern person, but I looked at some at BassPro and agree it is their best pattern yet, and might buy some cheap pants or gloves, etc.
For those curious, here is a shot of the loose Enduraskin shirt: ![]() I like this direction b/c I don't worry about matching all my camo, and lots more stuff is made in these Mossy Oak patterns than ASAT, Predator, etc. Maybe Mossy Oak is tired of losing market to the open pattern guys. ;) Finally got the pic to work. |
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
Bigger isn't always better! I'll stick to using what I know works better based on my own experiences while wearing a variety of patterns.
|
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I'm stickin to the ASAT I bought and I still don't think this is open enough, but I was just commenting that it looks like a step in the right direction, especially when compared to the early realtree patterns I used to wear.
I was also noting that they put these patterns on thousands of things (like bows) that someone like me might want to buy (although I usually don't buy camo gear ;)). |
RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
Honestly, I don't feel there is a right or wrong answer as to what the best pattern is. I classify patterns into 3 main categories. Cluttered (MOBU), Open (ASAT/Predator) and Semi-Open(APG). In the perfect world i'd have a different pattern in each category to suit the season and terrain that i'm hunting. Personally, I hunt a lot of different terrains, whether it's spring hunting with a lot of foilage, hardwood timber areas, open grasslands, thick cedar's, late season timber, etc. Depending on the terrain and season would dictate the best pattern. I wouldn't want to use Predator when hunting thick cedars on the ground, and wouldn't want to use MOBU in the late season hardwoods where i'm skylined. The semi-open APG like patterns, IMO, is the middle of 2 extreme's and best suited when using in all terrain and seasons. Not too much detail and not too much open... just right for me and the terrain and all-year around hunting that I do. I feel Realtree nailed it with the pattern. Just my 2 cents.

RE: Realtree AP open pattern?
I think Realtree is on the brink of a sales frenzy with this pattern. Bill Jordan is going to be an even richer man. Once they get some more contrast in this pattern and perfect it you won't be able to keep it on the shelves. It has the photo realism that hunters love and the contrast will be a hit with the open pattern fans. Once they tweek it look out.
