working at a pro shop

there is a new pro shop going in close to where i live and i was thinking about asking for a job their. but i was wondering do you get to hunt as much as you'd like to if you work there, or is it basically saying good bye to hunting season?

it's a job isn't it!!! My guess is the owner will be out hunting, since you will be working! Sorry, but that's the way it usualy works.

Most likely you'll get it the same as every other person, two days off a week. These days off may not be Saturdays and Sundays either, so if you hunt with someone else on those days, you may not get the chance to do that.

Are you talking about a part time or full time position. If it is a full time position then I would imagine it being much as the folks above mentioned. If it is a part time position then I am sure you should be able to work something out with the other employees in terms of a hunting season schedule.

...at least that is how it is down where I work. ;)

You are supposed to get 2 days off per week?
I'm going to have to have a talk with my boss:D

RE: working at a pro shop

I once talked to a shop owner about that. I was interested in either working in a shop, or me and a buddy wanted to open up a target shooting place with a small shop in it.

His response was "Do you like hunting?, Do you like shooting your bow?" I said yes, and said then don't work in a pro shop or open your own place. He said he rarely gets to hunt when he wants to because his most hectic time is during bow season. Everyone waits until the last minute and they want it yesterday. He said he was about to retire so he could start hunting again. He ended up passing away before he could sell the place and retire though[&o].

I personally wouldn't mind working in a small shop though, as long as I didn't have to ring people up. I love archery and helping people, but I don't like dealing with money. I would actually rather be a coach than a tech to be honest.

Absolutely 100% correct. I haven't killed a deer in two years. [:@]

It's really down right amazing that there are pro shops for people to go to.

RE: working at a pro shop

id definently talk to them...see if they even need people...and youll likely get atleast a day or 2 off per week...like most jobs...

but hunting season is the busy time for sure....

i know a gun shop owner...hes never open on sundays and usually closes early on fridays and saturdays..out rifle season opens on monday morning after thanksgiving. he used to head to camp saturday after work...it got so bad that he was there till 12PM and later on saturday night and had a line waiting to be there sunday. he figured sales were more important than hunting....he surely made a heap of cash that weekend and all through the season....just had to give up camp and hunting for it...

but since your not the owner...you might weasle your way around it a bit...the owner cant make you work ALL DAY EVERY DAY....:D lol......
