RE: What is your record?

I shoot one each year. It's all the venison that gets eaten in my household. I'm the only one who will eat it. My wife has some bad venison before we were married and won't even try it now. My kids are too influenced by their mother and Disney.

In the future I may start shooting two and giving one away, since my sister says she would like a little more.

Wahya:

Go to Alabama. That year alone, I saw over 1000 deer during hunting season. I hunted a lot, but still, that's a lot of deer. Overpopulation is a huge problem down there, and the bag limit of 2 deer a day every day of the season (Oct 15-Jan 31) still isn't enough. <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>

My personal record is 2 bucks in one year. But I feel a more important record to consider and one I wanted to share is my hunting buddy's record. It was opening day of his first bow hunting season. (he hunted a few times the year before but not to any real extent). Well low and behold it's opening morning and wouldn't you know it he shoots a nice 6 pointer. We field dress the deer bring it to the butcher and head out for the afternoon hunt. Wouldn't you know he shoots an 8 pointer. I have to say I have never met anyone who shot 2 bucks on his first opening day with a bow. (by the way) He didn't shoot any this season. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

It taught him this bow hunting thing isn't so easy after all....

Flip, I'll have to assume your hunting elsewhere since in NY, taking two antlered deer during bow season would not currently be legal.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

My personal record is one buck and although you can use management permits to take additional antlerless deer the last 2 weeks of the early archery season, I've never managed to connect.

RE: What is your record?

Actually, on Long Island you can take a buck and immediately be reissued another tag for another either sex deer for only $11.00. If you apply for doe tags you will get two doe permits and once you shoot a doe with one, they will reissue you another one. After you shoot another doe on the same tag they will issue you another either sex tag. If you shoot a buck with that then you are done.

Unless you begin using your other doe tag, in which case the rules mentioned above start over again. 2 does, then an either sex tag.

So, in summary, you can shoot quite a few in one season in Long Island NY. Unfortunately for my buddy he didn't have any doe permits because he didn't apply and his season ended the same day it began. Still not a bad first season though.

2 cottontail rabbits in one day. Still haven't got any big game yet. Going for 3 days this weekend for a late archery hunt. Hopefully I will have some luck on my side since late season here is tough (the early season isn't all that easy either). But it gets me out of the city for 3 days and that's all that matters.

Two times I have taken 8 Whitetails with my bow in one year. The first time they were all does and the second I shot 1 buck.
