RE: Fitness/Exercise
I lift 2 days on 1 day off 1 day on 1 day off. I run 10 to 15 miles a week and bike about 50 miles a week, right up to deer season.

ORIGINAL: burniegoeasily I usually engage in vigorous nose picking at least once a day. I flex my butt cheeks several times a day as well, I then run to the bathroom. I'm in pretty good shape. How that helps my hunting,,,,,,? I don't know, I just like that story. |

Definitely helps out w/the long hauls. I try to walk everyday & run every other. I also put on a weighted vest & hike w/that on. That really helps w/carrying all your gear.

RE: Fitness/Exercise
Hunting is physical, the better your condition the harder you can go at it.Most often to find the best spots and to take the best animals you need to go where other hunters are unwilling to go.Your body is what gets you in there and out, hopefully while dragging something.

RE: Fitness/Exercise
I train in mixed martial arts once to twice a week, and also lift and do cardio. I lift lighter weights for building endurance as opposed to heavy weights trying to get maximum strength. With the cardio I do more sprints than long distance running, although I do the occasional four to six mile jog just to mix things up.
Being fit helps a great deal in deer hunting. Even if I don't bag a deer, I still feel more aware of how I can best be alert while on stand though proper nutrition. Being fit also helps to have the energy to carry all of my equipment in and out of the woods. I never go on stand in the morning without eating a good breakfast. You would be surprised with how carbs really help staying observant while on stand. |

I lift 5 times a week, just started adding cardio into the mix.

RE: Fitness/Exercise
I try to lift 3-5 days a week, I'm pretty set in my ways as I've been doing it now for about 30years. I used to lift heavy but since the years are creeping up on me I keep the weights down now. Big bench presses, squats and deadlifts are a thing of the past, I can get reasonable results by lowering the weight and adding reps. It's difficult to change your body though when all it's used to doing is extreme heavy weights for so many years. From powerlifting through highschool and into college as well as strongman competitions after that,I'm used to a certian way of lifting. This unfortunately leads to injuries as I get older. It also does not help to keep my weight down. I am trying to stay atmy college and NFL playingweight of 310lbs +/- but I'm at about 325lbs so I have a few to lose. I would even like to break the 300lb mark (haven't been below there since I was 19)
I walk often and stay active. I like totake 3-4 day backpack trips with my friends into remote areas so I am in pretty decent shape for my age 42. Dragging a deer outhas always beeneasy for me sometimes I'll even carry them out. I think staying in shape greatly helps in hunting, not only from the physical aspect but from a mental one as well. A fit body will tend to function better both physically and mentally. Germ....talk about core strength...I'm the epitome of core strength.:DThat's all I've worked on for 30 years! |
