Tips for Bow hunting Turkeys?
So, this is my 3rd season bow hunting turkey. HCH(Don) is an awesome teacher and I am learning so much from him. I was thinking about our upcoming hunt this coming week, and thought, I should ask you'all what you would say to a newer turkey bow hunter if you could give them just one tip. I respect you all and value your input.
Thanks,
Sarah

RE: Tips for Bow hunting Turkeys?
I have hunted from a blind the last two years and plan to do so again. I am really looking forward to this year as we have some new land to hunt on. This year is going to be the year, I can feel it.

Not to hijack your thread sarah, but this is my first year bowhunting for birds, so im a newbie too. I have one question for all of yall:
When you set up a blind, how do you hunt it??
Do you just sit in it and call? or just wait??
I usually hunt on foot w/ a gun, so i just do the "cutt & run" technique, and its worked well so far...

Ed:
You've probably heard me say this before......but my cousin says:
"The key to being a good caller.......is being where they want to come"
He's called in birds for me......and he's good at it. This is going to be my first season calling my own birds in. I know where they frequent......because I've done my legwork by scouting them. I'm going to set up in this area......and do some soft calling.....JUST enough to get their attention to my deke. I know they're going to come through this area......so I can wait 'em out.
Sound or not.....this is the strategy I've chosen. I'll go with it 'til I'm proven wrong.
Good luck to all of you going after them with the bow (and gun, too).

I think most people will tell you to put your blind up on the edge of a field and sit and wait them out. Throw a couple of decoys out and a few hen yelps every once in awhile and eventually, you will get a shot at a turkey. I prefer the more aggressive approach that is common with gun hunters. You can employ the same tactics that you would use when you are "running and gunning" with a gun. Try and find a hot bird, get as close as you can and set up. The only difference is that you need to be really good at knowing when to drawback. This technique is still effective, so don't feel like you have to sit in a blind all day and wait. You don't need a blind to kill turkey, it is just easier to do.
