Range for Turkeys
#1
I am going to try it with a bow this year. I am wondering how far people feel comfortable shooting. Range isn't really an issue as far as my setup, but I don't know if it's like deer, or if I should try to keep shots under 25yds. I will be hunting out of a blind along some food plot edges. Also do you set up decoys differently if for bowhunting.
Thanks

It all depends on how comfortable you are shooting. If you are using a blind and a decoy there is a good posibility that you could get them into 5 yards...idealy it would be nice to get a bird in to 20 yards or less IMO

25 yards is max with a broadhead in the vitals or a getter in the head.
i want the bird to die from my shot, not from me ringin its neck.
its easy part is arrowing the bird, the hard part is killing it!
i dont go for the head i go for vitals.

I honestly will shoot one at 60 yards. I have practiced there and i know i can so i am going to try if i have to.
Otherwise i want to get one within 40-30-20 yards. I have used a decoy and they work great on lone toms but if the toms have hens with them already it isnt as affective.

As tough as turkeys seem to be (I am no expert) and asrelativelysmall as they are,I would limit MYSELF to 30 yards. Of course, I really like the shots under 10 yards. For some reason I am always confident on those

I think a bit of reality needs to be interjected here! I'm a pretty good shot and I'm very comfortable with my bow. if I shoot groups at 30yds I am in danger of busting nocks.40 yds and shafts may well be touching. However that is shooting at a stationary target. turkeys move. Particularly their heads. In MY opinion a 40 yd shot at a turkeys head or a 60 yd shot at a turkeys vitals is iffy at best. And that is putting it nicely. For ME, 40 yds is the max range for a shot at a birds vitals and then conditions have to be ideal. Unless I'm using Guillioteens I won't take a head shot. Ideally a well placed shot to the vitals at 15-20 yards is what I'm looking for. If I can't get them that close maybe I need to work on my calling!
