From what I have heard from John Schulz, the first shot was directly over, second was directly under, thirdwas direct in thechest cavity, the elk was recovered.

NO DOUBT it was a great shot, Bob......

But....(and for the sake of DISCUSSION).....if you were 33% in the kill zone at a designated range .......would you consider this range your "effective" range?

Fair question?

He killed the animal......point conceded. I guess this turns into a question of "ethics".....to which ther eis NO "wrong" answer.......just "different" opinions.

Would I personally take a 185 yards shot at an animal? Simply answer no.

Times certainly have changed. Today not many people would ever think of taking 155 or 185 yard shots at game, but obviously it can be done.

Things have changed quite a bit since I have started bowhunting. On one of my first trips out we were returning from a drive and saw a group of deer in a thicket about 40 yards away. Most of us were in our early teens and saw the deer, but thought it was too far and too thick to shoot at those deer. One of the old timers grabbed my friend's bow and started throwing arrows at the deer and asked, "What's wrong with you kids?!?! There's deer over there!" Ethical, no, but it still happened. That was almost 19 years ago.

I can' even hardly see that far without some help, much less see well enough to shot.

I wish I knew how topost a video clip because I am going to shoot my recurve at 100 yds this weekend and film it.If I can figure out how to post it I will no matter what the results(it will be good for at least a couple of laughs).

That sums it up, unless his name was Fred Bear, Howard Hill, or Ben Person. And even at that, I think Id call B.S.. I believe 80 + was tops for the fathers of this sport.

I would have guessed either Fred Bear or Ted Nugent. Hasn't ted shot game at a 100 yards or so? I think I read where he did.

Paul
