RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???
Sliver I am coming up Morel hunting around May 6th. Time to change focus[8D]

RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???
I can see where Sliver is comming from and I agree that it takes less archery skills to shoot a crossbow than a compound or long bow, I will concede that point. My look at it is simple, if states want to keep crossbows a separate season that's fine, but if they decide to include crossbows into either the firearm season or archery season, it makes more sense to put them into the archery season because they are more bow like than firearm like.
I'm not going to go over the similarities as I have already done that and I don't want to be redundant becauseI'm sure BobCo19-65 will post here to let me knowthat I am.:D Most states see it this way as well. They include crossbow kills as archery kills and most states that allow crossbows, allow them during the archery seasons. There are some exceptions but most see them as archery equipment. |

RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???
Silver, you asked a fair question several pages ago and I never got around to answering it.
You say you can hunt something 11 months out of the year with a crossbow, and that your state allowes disabled ( handicapped ) hunters to hunt the archery season, and that you qualify, but you will not do that because it would make you feel like a hypocrite! So then your telling us you getting it legalized durring archery season is just to help you feel better? If not please explain. I've also gotten a gooddeal of experience with crossbows in the past couple of years.I've learned that almost everything I've read about crossbows from the Pope and Young Club and the ProfessionalBowhunters Society's anti-crossbow committeehas been untrue, either through ignorance or malicious intent. I'm arguing their side because I feel I owe the crossbow movement some restitution for fighting against them so long with opinions basedfor alarge parton incorrect information, prejudice and extreme ignorance. I feel it's only fair to work to correct the mistakes I've made. And I'm arguing the crossbow side partly because I've long warned folks where technology was taking the compound, and have often been vilified in many internet forums over it. Even got kicked off the Bowsite forum due to this issue. So, call it vengeance, if you want. Payback against the ones who called me everything buthuman because I spoke upagainst their beloved techie advances. As for your other question, why won't I use the opportunity and hunt with the crossbow in archery season, since I qualify? That, I'm afraid, ismy sense of fair play. I just can't see myself doing that after beingananti-crossbowheadhunter for so long. That's about it. |
RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???
99% let-off. When you're only holding 7/10ths of a pound back, the physcal activity is minimal. Especially when you rest the bottom cam of the bow on something so you don't have to hold the bow up. I wonder if these things are legal for hunting in all states and P&Y entries: http://www.knightandhale.com/STEADY+READY.htm |
RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???
99% let-off is not legal inall states but they are legal for all P&Y entries, with an asterisk.
I don't know for sure about the steady ready. Never heard of any regs or rules against it, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. |
