hunting rest
What do you all using for an arrow rest on your hunting rig. What are the pros and cons.
I am looking at swapping out my NAP Quicktune. Jim |
RE: hunting rest
I use my Whisker Biscut. Its one onthe best bow accesories you can buy on today market. Others like the drop down rests but you have to have really good form and stuff. The only bad thing to a Whisker Biscut is that it slows down your arrow by a couple FPS and the last time i looked, a few FPS didn't make a whole lota differance with a deer!:D

RE: hunting rest
I also use the Whisker Biscut Deluxe, very happy with it, I just got it few weeks ago but already put like 200 shoot thru it...just get the right size! Also, I use duravanes and have not have any problems...an did not notice the reduction on speed.
Just my 0.02 ![]() |
RE: hunting rest
I use the Whisker Biscuit as well, it's a great hunting rest. I have been using them for some time now and have no complaints. As someone stated, get the correct size biscuit....when in doubt get the next size larger.

RE: hunting rest
Wow. I'll be the first to say that I just got rid of my whisker biscuit and will be purchasing a QAD Ultra Rest HD.
I was slightly dissapointed in the reduction of speed but even more dissapointed in the sound factor. WB's are a bit noisey. You can put armor all on them, "no ice", you can wax the shafts, etc. It will quiet the WB down some. With WB's, the vanes must "sift" their way through. This proves to be noisey and is where the reduction of speed comes from. With a drop-away, there is no "sifting" going on and nothing reducing the speed. |
RE: hunting rest
I use a WB and have for years. With the aarows I use noise is not a factor. I also use Blazers with my WB. I have personally never noticed any speed loss to make a difference.
If you want something simple, reliable, quiet and offers total aarow containment, you can't go wrong with the WB IMO. |
RE: hunting rest
MDBuckhunter....
Your reasons for changing were the EXACT reasons I changed. I, too, utilize the QAD Ultra Rest......and I've had ZERO issues with it. Just for kicks.....I was in our local bow shop on Saturday.....and picked up a new Bowtech Guardian that the shop had installed a WB on. I came to full draw, utilizing anumber of arrows. The radial x-weaves, BY FAR, were the noisiest (and this just so happens to be the arrows I use). The most quiet arrows were Beamans (really nothing discernable). The bow shop owner could hear me drawing the bow from over THIRTY FEET. I trust deer can discern said noise even more acutely. And Gus.... I believe noise ISN'T likely a factor just as well. It all depends on the arrow you're utilizing. At the time, though.....I had MUCH more money tied up in arrows than I did the WB. It was an easy choice FOR ME. If you don't have an arrow choice.....pull several through the WB.....and noise shouldn't be a factor for you, either. Good luck. |
RE: hunting rest
I use a WB and also use radial x-weaves. I have no nosie issues at all, it is very quiet whenI draw.
|
RE: hunting rest
I would deffiently go with a QAS ULTRA REST, they have all the advantages of the wisker bisquit but none of the draw backs. I personaly shoot the ultra rest pro LD.
|
RE: hunting rest
Suppose to say QAD sorry for the spelling.
|
RE: hunting rest
i use the wb. it seems to be fine for me.
|
RE: hunting rest
i just got a wb droptine and it works great i cant tell the difference in arrow speed at all
|
RE: hunting rest
I shot a WB this year and agree they can be a bit noisey. Im switching to a Ripcord Arrow Rest. It is almost identical to the QAD
|
RE: hunting rest
use a WB and also use radial x-weaves. I have no nosie issues at all, it is very quiet whenI draw. With the WB and X-weaves.....it's subjective as to the noise level YOU'RE willing to accept. |
RE: hunting rest
The rest of my choice for hunting right now would be the limb driver by vaportrail .
|
RE: hunting rest
I USE THE WB MYSELF AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH NOISE OR NOTICE ANY REDUCTION IN SPEED THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
|
RE: hunting rest
I've used the WB for years and almost all of my hunting partners use it as well. We shoot all year long in my yard and we shoot all kinds of different arrows. Noise is not a factor with the rest as far as I am concerned. I have personally chronoed my bow with and without the WB and the speed difference was 1-2 fps..........again, a non factor as far as I am concerned.
It's the most popular hunting rest in the world for a reason. |

RE: hunting rest
To me, one of the most important factors for hunting is good arrow flight. Good arrow flight means more accuracy and no lost energy which will rob precious inches in penetration. The only way I can see to have the most consistent arrow flight from shot to shot is to minimize the contact on the arrow from shot to shot. This means a drop away rest. Right now, I use the Trophy Ridge Drop Zone, but I am seriously looking at the QAD lock down series because they stay up when you let down, they are full containment, and the do not rebound on the shot. This is ideal for consistency and good arrow flight. The WB goes against all of the principles I follow for getting good arrow flight. It not only contacts the arrow through the shot, but contacts the fletching to, which I consider to be a big no-no.
With that being said, there are a lot of deer that fall to arrows shot through the WB every year, so it can't be that bad. For me, I like the drop aways though. |
RE: hunting rest
I use a Muzzy Zero Effect.

RE: hunting rest
Great link, Germ. I've said all along.....it's a great rest. I also know I'm not alone when I cite the noise issues. It's probably the number one hunting rest......because it's cheap....it has full arrow containment......and it's easy to set up. Not bad credentials, at all. I just couldn't live with the noise.
If I shot different arrows......I've also always contended.....I'd still be a WB user. I've never told anyone to NOT BUY THIS REST. I've just always warned others to go to a shop......and draw back several differnt arrows through one (or, simply.....the ones YOU USE). You may have NOTHING to worry about. |
RE: hunting rest
The Trophy Ridge Drop Zone......LOVE IT!
