PA,
under Big Game Regs, bottom right page it states:

Blinds: Blinds can be used for big game (see turkey section for specifics
for blinds used while turkey hunting), however, the required amount of
fluorescent orange must be worn while in the blind. Although, not required,
it is recommended that some fluorescent orange be displayed outside the
blind.

RE: illegal

so you can use natural blinds?

RE: illegal

Here in Michigan like in most states it's illegal to leave a ground blind that is not madeof natural material on public or state land.
However if the blind is made of broken branch's such as dead fall , pine branch and other natural material , it can be left on public and state lands.

Yes you can use natural blinds in Pa, I hunted that way for years and killed lots of deer.;) Come to think of it, I don't know where you can't.[8D]

RE: illegal

why couldn't you? Just drag up a bunch of deadfall logs/limbs etc and you're set to go. My dad layed a sleeping bag across a downed log and was totally concealed from the deer plus he had a padded gun rest too! A very effective setup (for gun that is) bow is a different story...

RE: illegal

You can make a killer man made blind, like Midwestj suggested, from blowdowns, brush etc. I feel this will stand out less than a bought blind. It'll look more natural, and blend in with the environment better. You don't have to worry about any new plastic, orstore oders scent to wear off. Theft is another issue that you certainly don't need, especially if you saved for awhile to buy a new blind. I don't want to sound negative towards your purchase, but you definateley have other options. If I was in your shoes, I would make 2 or 3 different setups, in different wind directions related to your runs or scrapes. This way if the wind isn't right for one set-up, you can still hunt in another. It gives you the mobility to bounce around in different areas, rather than overhunting a particular set-up. The best is it'll cost you nothing but time. You won't be supposidly "scent contained", but just stay downwind, ALWAYS, and you'll be fine......Good Luck! ;)

Um, I hate to ruin this for everyone but I'm almost certain that I read you couldn't make a natural blind in PA. I'll go check my book.

RE: illegal

I would love to know the reasoning for this. I thoughtNJ was bad.

RE: illegal

Follow up of my earlier post. I didn't add in the Turkey side of blinds.

Regulations:

Blinds: The use of turkey blinds is legal under the following definition:
Any artificial or manufactured turkey blind consisting of all man-made
materials of sufficient density to block the detection of movement within
the blind from an observer outside the blind. Artificial or manufactured
turkey blinds consisting of all man-made materials means blinds must be
constructed of plastic, nylon, canvas, cotton cloth, plywood or other man-
made materials. Blinds made by piling rocks, logs, branches, etc. are
unlawful. The blind must completely enclose the hunter on all four sides
and from above to block the detection of movement within the blind.
When fluorescent orange is required at a stationary calling location in
fall seasons, at least 100 square inches must be displayed outside the
blind and within 15 feet of the blind, visible 360 degrees. inches of solid
fluorescent orange material, visible 360 degrees, must be worn at all times when
moving. May be removed at a stationary calling location, but displaying a fluo-
rescent orange band is strongly recommended.

RE: illegal

In Pa, you just can't injure trees and such. You can use natural deadfalls andbranches for a blind.:)

PaBowhunter29 03-11-2007 11:44 AM

RE: illegal

i know that you cant use natural blinds for turkey. which is dumb i'm sit gonna sit behind a down tree

pigiron 03-11-2007 11:45 AM

RE: illegal

It's insane tosayyou can't hide behind a few dead trees and some available brush during bowseason. I could see the law making sense during firearm, I hear it gets a little crazy in PA.As a matter of fact, I don't think I'd be hunting anywhere on the ground during firearm season in PA. But bowseason is another story. What's wrong with making a blind out of dead natural resources? .............EarlyIn, you might have misunderstood me, I wasn't suggesting to cut living trees, I pretty sure I said "blowdowns".

RE: illegal

No pigiron, I didn't misunderstand you. I was justsaying what they don't want you to do, that's all. All naturalblind is a great way to hunt during archery.;)

I can't find my handbook but I'll look it up tommorow in my grandpa's.

I don't see why you couldn't just pass it off as a good spot. Like it was like that when you got there, I'm just pretty sure I read it because I remember being confused about it.
