Buck Growl

I used one last season with fairly good results. Called a 3.5 8 pt. off a group of does with it, also called up a couple of younger bucks. Just curious on everyones thoughts about the call and if anyone else had luck

I have heard more harm then good. But....I will keep an open mind and read what people have to say here.

I bought into the hype and got one at Wal-Mart after the season was over when they had them for $5.00. So I will try it out next year, if nothing else, it will be interesting to see the deers reactions when blowing a fog horn in the woods. LOL

I should say the only time I did have success with it was when I used it on aggresive bucks, and it did seem to scare off little bucks for the most part. The growl combined with a snort weeez did seem pretty effective though.

The call is to be used on mature bucks not young bucks.you will havebetter luck with anaggresive buckin the rut any other time I would keep the call in mybag.

I used the Buck Growl last season with some mixed results , one morning as I sat in my stand I gave the call a couple of grunts and ten minutes later a four point spike came rushing in.
I passed on that hoping for something bigger and let it walk away , gave the the call a couple more grunts and the same four point comes back.
This went on the good part of the morning until around 1:00 pm I grunted again only to have two does come in followed by the same four point again.

I will say one thing, the buck growl is probaly the best sounding grunt call Ive heard, and i used it alot just as a grunt call with good results.

passthru, Use the search feature and you should find a few threads that discuss this call in detail (buck growl/buck roar). I have the roar and was definitely a satisfied customer

I bought the buck roar cuz I heard it doesnt make the ducky sound, and i only had one time that it may have worked. I had a nice 140ish buck run by me during rifle season and hit the roar and nothing, maybe he winded me or something but he didnt have his tail up so i dont know. But I do know that small 5 pointers dont like it. They took off after i tried to call in him in for fun.

i have one and really like it. but its like any other call, you have to ave a willing deer. sometimes no matter what you throw ate them they wont respond...but when they do its awesome

RE: Buck Growl

I gave the MAD Buck Growl a decent test over this past season and personally, I found that the Primos Buck Roar wasa better designed call. Not onlydidthePrimos calloffer a better, more authentic sounding grunt but it sounded MUCH better when used aggressively to "roar". I had numerous bucks respond to these calls, including some respectable animals. I also noted that the MAD call had a tendency to stick, especially in cold weather. The Primos never stuck or frooze up and thebuilt insnort wheeze just makes the call that much more impressive and authentic. Ifigured when that call was released that thousands of hunters would run right out and buy then take it to the woods and be ticked off when it didn't prove itself to be some magic bean! LOL! Let's face it, you're not going to call in a aggressive mature buck if he's not in the mood or there simply isn't one in the area. For that reason I prefer to use the call in big deer areas and then (as I am with nearly all calling) call only to the deer I can see and thus "read". No such thing as a miracle call but when used at certain times during a very limited time frame, this call could easily put a monster buck in your sights. It's a tool that I feel should be carried with the rest of your tools of the trade. Good luck and good shootin'

Il Corn Fed, thanks for your post because you just saved me from a bunch of typing!!:DMy findings were exactly as yours. I think that the Primos Buck Roar is a much better call.
On Nov. 17th. I had a nice 9 pt. come running in chasing a hot doe. She came through about 45 seconds before him on a run. Here he came behind her. He stopped where she went out of the edge of the woods and ran across a small open field to another section of the woods. Right before he took off to cross the field, I hit the Roar. Man he froze and threw his head up and looked my way. He looked back her way, then towards me, then back her way again. I hit the Roar again and that was all he could take. man he stiffened up , blew up and the hair on his back and neck stood up. He let out a long deep grunt of his own and trooted my way. I mouth grunted and stopped him and layed a perfect double lunger on him. About 10 seconds and and 35 yards later my season was over ( yea, we get one deer here!). So I have no doubts that the Roar works at the right time on the right deer.
