Pics of broadhead wounded doe healed up
Friend of mine got a pic of this girl back in the season that someone had wounded. Got another pic of her last week healed up pretty nicely.

That first pic looks like more than a broadhead wound. I would say she had a tangle with a car or a fence.

He knew the guy that shot her. Quartering away, doe ducked, shot went high.

RE: Pics of broadhead wounded doe healed up
neat pics, they can be darn tuff sometimes

It sure left a nasty wound, but it has healed up nicely. Those deer are tuff critters. A couple of years ago I had a doe around my house that had her leg broken around the ankle. At first the other deer picked on her and pushed her away from my feeder. Little by little the leg healed but you could see some swelling. Then come spring time she moved around fine and she would even do some pushing around.

Wow good pics....;)

Yeah, I'd definately call it a gun or a fence. It looks larger than a broahead.

You gotta remember how tightly stretched that skin probably was as she flexed to spring away... a razor-sharp broadhead splitting that skin and the tension on both sides would make a heckuva split.
Glad to see she's healed up so nicely; she looks like she's puttin' on some good weight for the winter, too. |

a few years back one of my friends came to me saying he shot a nice 8 point, complete pass through chest-waited an hour, blood trailed & jumped the Buck up. Never found him. 1 week to the day he shot another Buck from the same stand & recovered hiom-when cleaning the Deer discovered it was the same Buck from the week b/4. Could hardly tell where he had been shot (high-under spine) except from the inside & it was nearly completly healed. I know of many more instances of things like this-seems if you miss vitals & they don't get an infection MANY recover.

That happened to me a couple years ago. The arrow tipped a small branch on it wat to it mark. I thought it was a good shot. Looked for afew straight days with no luck. I felt so bad I didn't hunt for over a week. Went out about a week and half later and harvested a buck. When I flipped him over I could tell it was the same one. He was on his way to recovery, but it was about an 8 in slice. The skin had stretched about 3 inch apart. They are tough, when I shot him he was coming into my doe bleat. Perfect shot through the boiler room, went 35 yrds.

I shot a spike bull elk last year that did the same thing. It dropped and spun at the shot. The broadhead (125 grain Slick Trick) left a nearly identicle wound in the exact same spot as the doe above. I kept an eye on the elk's line of departure and was able to ambush it about half an hour later. I put him down for good with anothe Slick Trick through the front shoulder. The original shot left a long gaping wound along the top of the shoulder. I was happy that it didn't get away. Flinch

Cool pictures. This is just one more example of why I tell people I track for just because you hit it does not mean the deer is going to die exspecially on high hits.

RE: Pics of broadhead wounded doe healed up
Man, those are some good pics. The first pic looks nasty but it really isn't that dangerous of a shot, it doesn't appear that there was any muscle damange. The only thing to worry about with a wound like that is infection but she looks great. I have seen wounds on deer that don't look nearly that bad that have cause MUCH more damage, one buck that a buddy of mine shot had been stabbed by another buck while fighting and it had caused an infection which created a pocket of green puss under the hide, that was pretty disgusting to see when he was skinning the buck out.

RE: Pics of broadhead wounded doe healed up
just a scratch, as said above no muscle damage so, especialy with cold weather, will heal fine. looks ugly but is just gaping a bit. by that line in the hair though he came close to unziping her whole neck.
