what is the weirdest thing you saw in the woods. my was when i shot at a doe the season and onthe next day me and my dad came back to look for my arrow and we saw 3 fox and we didn't see any when we were hunting. so the next day i shot a big doe and we tracker and my dad leave with my bow,pack,and seat so he leave and i gut my deer and sit down to rest my back and i hear saming out in the grass and its organe and its poping though the grass then a big red fox jumps over my head and then jumps on a dead tree and then ran and jumps of the cliff. it was CRAZY

I saw a pack of Coyotes run under my stand up to the corn field above and start calling. Suddenly an owl flew through the valley and began to call. Then many other owls begans calling back. One by one, from across many valleys.

The mixture of coyote howling and owl calling was enough to send shivers up my back and make my hands tremble.

I was supposed to get out of my deer stand and walk back to the cabin in the dark. It is a long walk. I was scared to death.

I don't have one but my grandpa has quite a few. He was in Alaska and they were bear hunting and flying around. It was something like that but anyways the bear ate a bunch of plastic and it came out the other end. It was strewn out over a bunch of brush. I've seen some pretty crazy things I just can't really think right now.

Not really weird or strange but it is unusual for this part of my state .
My friend and I where walking to his treestand and this little fella comes out to say hi.

Oh yeah talking about owls, there was an owl that was hanging out right by our birdfeeder and it ate a mouse every once and while when we were watching it and one day it just fell straight out of the tree. Went and picked it up with a pair of gloves and all there was too him was skin and bones.

Not really weird but annoying I was hunting in Georgiaand as the sun came up instead of a rooster crowing I had to listen to a Jackass braing for about 2 hours if I would have seen it I would have shot it it was driving me crazy!

While sitting in a tree stand a friend of mine had an owl swoop down while flying over him and take his hat right off his head .
He found his hat a few days later .
I guess it was the wrong size or something ...LOL...:D

The weirdest has to be when i saw a HUGE racoon chasing a squirrel.
He chased him up a tree and the squirrel stopped,turned and face the coon.When thecoon got within a couple inches,the squirrel jumped over the coon and ran down the tree.It took what seemed like forever to me for the FAT coon to get turned around and back down the tree.I thought the coon lost the squirrel but about 20 minutes later,I see him chasing him (or another squirrel)again about 100 yards away.


I literally laughed out loud.:D

i was in the woods doing spot and stalk and i spotted a small buck and he started getting nervous around me becuz i didnt see him till i was close and so i had to act like i was another animal. i pretended to eat plants walk on all 4's, etc. bu it works. ive had to do that a couple times and it always works out for me

A Rabbit and a Squirl fighting over a Corn cob, when there was a hole field of it a short distance away. But the other night the Wife and I were watching TV when we herd something running down the wall to the closet, I got up to take a look, and it was a White Ermine! He must have been after a Mouse, He can stay!

I've had a hawk take a squirrell off a branch about 5 ft away from my stand while he was barking at me for being in his tree. Sounded like a jet plane. I had a owl try to take my head off. I was sitting perfectly still, I think it saw my eyes moving. But the coolest was a bobcat stalking and taking a squirrell out of a tree about twenty yards away. The squirrel was about twelve feet off the ground(eye level), and the bobcat jumped grabbed it and had it dead by the time it hit the ground. Not a single sound, except rustling leaves. He ate it, cleaned himself and fell asleep right on the forest floor. It was awesome. This stuff is as much a reason that I bowhunt as shooting a big buck......almost:)

Last season a turkey landed on the branch above my head, and you guest it, turkey poop! I moved and the thing took off like a rocket.

This past season I saw a squirrel attack a doe and latch on to her face, dont know what they were fighting over but it must have been pretty improtant. The bad thing was I had drawn back for a shot at the doe, oh well.

I think about the craziest thing i ever seen was this time i was sitting on the ground because i forgot my tree steps that day so i sat under a big spruce tree after a few hours i heard some rustling in the leaves and it sounded big also it was coming my way... so i get ready for what sounded like a train comin through the bush and it gets closer and closer finaly i see the biggest fattest racoon i have ever seen kind of waddling along trying to run i start laughing and wonder what he was running from well then i see what he was runnin from it was a big fat red squirrel puttin the run right to him all i could do was laugh i think he must have gotten into his winter storage or somethin cause that squirrel was right mad it was quite funny i never seen any deer that day but that made up for it...

I have two things... 1st when I was younger scouting a small woods with a friend.... we were standing in the woods just looking around... and we saw 3 deer in the distance a mom and two young deer (we had no camo on) and they kept coming our way and we werent behind any tree's or anything we just stood still... here the two young ones were button bucks and they kept walking our way and walked within 2 yards of us and were stairing us down... it was unbelievable and we kinda started to laugh, because we could have easily touched them... the mom stood farther away adventally they spoked, that shows how dumb young deer are..

2nd.. this past season I saw a bald eagle fly by me 3 different times and the last time it did it had a squirrel of something in its claws and then it dropped it and flew down and picked it up again. pretty amazing. this was in maryland.

the wierdest thing i saw was i was hunting the 2nd week of archery and this hawk came down and perched on a branch about 30 yds from me and i was like wats this thing doing and no sooner it swooped down and picked a squirrel up right up from the ground and brought it back up in the tree

Opening day of archery season I had a woodchuck climb up a slightly tilted tree about 10 feet away. He got up as high as I was and sat in a croch the tree had and watched me for a good 30 minutes. I also had a redtail hawk come down and pearch on a large dead branch about 6ft from me.

I don't know if you guys have weasels but where I hunt they always come in the stand. They are some ferocious little buggers. Probably the meanest animal around for their size. They'll try to bite you and everything. Chickadees fly right through my stand every once in a while. I saw about 30 bald eagles one winter when we were putting the beaver carcusses out on the ice.

I was fishing one day and catching perch and I was throwing them out for the gulls. Had one of those fish catching birds (I forgot the name right now but I know it wasn't a fish eagle) anyways he grabbed it and the bald eagle saw that and took off from the nest and chased after him. They got ina little mid air fight but the bald eagle just eventually let it go.

Id have to say the weirdest animal I ever saw was a jet black fox. Another time in the woods a fawn was following me and my dad around while we were scouting a state lands.:D

I don't know how weird this is..but it was arare sight. I watched a wolf run down the road in front of me for about 30 seconds one time with a front quarter off of a whitetail in his mouth..

I have had some pretty odd experiences and some close encounters. Pepper sprayed a sow bear climbing my stand, had a cub sniffing my leg through my blind, had a bull moose walk within petting distance right past me staring me in the eye and grunting every step ( i actually dialed my cell phone home and held the phone out, the moose grunting was saved on my message manager) witnessed a cow elk fight off 2 yotes as they were trying to seperate her from her calf. My favorite thing in the word is to watch squirrels actually. I dam near fall out of my tree laughing when they are fighting with one another and also like when they come up into the stand and suddenly realize what you are.

A spike on top of a doe not weird but nature. I kind of ruined his day because while in action I shot him.:DIt was crazy because I thought they were all does until he got on top of her. Then I knew it was a buck.

Here goes....

My wife and I were in my truck driving through my lease and just about to pull into the campsite when this critter ran across the road about 75 yards in front of us. I STOPPED THE TRUCK AND WATCHED! Then it ran back across to the area it came from originally. THEN, it ran back across again and disappeared. It was dark colored, brown or black. It was small, about the size of a house cat, but it was not a house cat. It walked with its head lower to the ground than its rear-end. Its tail was long and slender and also longer than it's body.The tail also went up, off its rear and then pointed back towards the ground, kinda like a U shape but upside down. Before I could say anything, my wife asked, "What was that?" I said" I don't know but it looked like a ..............











MONKEY!!!!"


Seriously! To this day, I still don't know what it was.

Since then, the guys on the lease have had a great time razzing me about it and the lil critter has grown into a full sized gorilla.[&:]

One moring I was sitting in my treestand and right before daybreak I felt something hit me in the head and continue by on to the tree, then another, and another. Evidently, I had set-up shop right in front of a flying squirrel nest.

Funniest was a little squirrel that made me when it tried to go up the tree I was in. Ran back down the tree and up another with an apple in it's mouth. Then ran down the tree, set down the apple and started chirping, picked the apple back up, ran back up the tree, staired at me then back down the tree and repeated the chirping.Must have done this about 10 times and I almost fell out of the tree laughing. Sure I wasn't going to see a deer for a while. However, things like that are why I enjoy archery in the first place. You aren't going to have an experience like that sitting on the couch.

Couple weird things in recent years.......I had an owl buzz me like some other guys already said, he either didn't see me or was coming after me but I dodged him.

Last year I had a hawk land about 10 feet in front of me and groom itself for a few minutes.........maybe one of the cooler things I have seen on stand.

2 years ago I saw a full sized pine crack in half and fall to the ground. It was amazing and pretty scarey too since all I could picture was the tree I was strapped to doing the same [:o]

A friend of mine was calling coyotes with his mouth. Squeeking like a mouse and other stuff when an owl came down and nicked the top of his head. I guess you have to be pretty dang good to get an owl to dive for you. Kinda cool though.

Weirdest thing I have ever seen in the woods was about 7 years ago. My son and I were squirrel hunting in NW Pa and we see this "deer" coming towards us. Well the closer it got, we really couldnt figure out what it was. It was a black deer, with antlers going towards the back like an elk and its "penis" was in the middle of its belly kinda like a cow. It wasnt very big almost a little smaller than a whitetail. I saw a friend who was hunting in the same area and he also saw it. We have no idea what it was. There is a a guy up here in this area who has some exotic animals on his farm. I called him and described it to him and he said he had no idea what it was. I looked it up online and couldnt find it anywhere. Never saw it again after that day and never heard of anybod else seeing it.

Saw a falcon standing on the ground bya bush looking into the bush. It all of a sudden jumped/tookoff into the bush and then came out of it with a sparrow in its tallons and then started to eat it. It was cool I didnt think they hunted from the ground like that ever.

The weirdest thing I can remember came about 4 years ago. I had a doe tag in my pocket, and I was bowhunting in one of my favorite stands. I got there before sunrise, and once the sun arose, I realize a flock of turkeys were roosted in the same tree as my treestand.

It was about the same time as the turkeys are about to fly down, and here comes a nice big doe down the trail. She was only 25 yards quartering to me, when a hen turkey flew down right in front of the doe, and the same trail. It was obvious the doe wanted to walk down the trail towards me but the turkey was in the way, not 7-8 feet from the deer.

They had a staredown for 10-15 seconds and then the doe lowered her head and basically pushed the turkey away. The turkey held it's ground until the deer was only 1-2 feet away, and then jumped out of the trail.

Once the doe was past the turkey, she took a few more steps, and I made a perfect 10yard broadside shot.

It was an interesting morning. A duel of the Turkey vs. Deer... and I won! haha

I was hunting on the eastern shore of maryland two years ago. I was sitting in my stand I had set up in a funnel , had a pond to my left and a field to my right. I Had some deer coming down the funnel at prime time when thease ducks came in for a landing in the pond. Well,one of the ducks had miss judged his altitude on the approatch, hit the tree tops,and tumbled to the ground. Guess what happened to the deer!!! Then this dam duck whent quackin' in a huge circle out into the field then back to the pond passing right under my stand!!!! I hate ducks.............................
