I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I have owned many different bows in my life. I can list 'em all, but you would get bored! Here's a few--old to current!----Oneida Black Eagle--HoytDefient---Pse Carrera(orion cam)--Hca Carbon 4-runner---McPherson Hornet! The Hornet is okay, nice and quiet, but it's to short axle to axle(30") and the string angle is strange......I guess I could get used to it, but I still don't get that "WARM AND FUZZY" feeling when I shoot it! With all your vast knowlege You guys can help a brother find sanctuary!
I am not brand spacific and I don't care if it's not one of the big 3 (Pse,Hoyt, or Mathews) I'll shoot anything!---E- mail if you are interested in the Hornet!----John IN THE KILLZONE! |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
If , you have shot your Oneida Black Eagle, what is the problem? It is the best!

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Yes, Mine IS the best <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> and you can't have it!
You CAN buy one like it at your local (Or in MY case, NOT so local) Alpine pro shop. Mine is the Stealth Force, and has a 39"ATA. If you want something shorter, the Stealth SS comes in at 36" ATA. Some magazine recently did a "world's quietest bow" comparison, and the Stealth SS was quietest, and within a couple (1-2?) FPS of the fastest as well. The Stealth Force is basically the same bow...only longer (would that make it louder or quieter?). Also, with sealed bearings in the idler AND cam (Hoyt is starting to do that with their cam and a half), wide string grooves (No serving wear), and inovative limb mount system (Limb ends DON'T move when changing tension....only a preload bar). It's tough to beat. Oh yeah, it's pretty light to. Again, with an ATA of 39", and a brace of 7" it's a SWEET shooting bow!!! I get over 300 fps at 58 lb draw and 75 grain tips (still over 5 gn/lb). You will have a hard time finding another bow with better features...better ADDS? Yes, but not better features. Of course, if all you want is speed....see your BowTech dealer. They make a damn fine bow as well. Neetest new cam...look at the Hoyt cam & 1/2 |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Mine is BEST!
The Matrhews 'FX' is known as the hunters bow. It is a forgiving bow with a brace height of 7-1/2" and an axle to axle dimension of 34." My set up 67# @ 28" draw with an NAP Quicktune 4000 fall away rest will drive tacks with the best of them and I have had two pass throughs with it and I can carry it all day. Dick |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Like you I have been through alot of bows and they were the best at the time,But now I have another best. It's a Bowtech Patriot that's at 28" and set at 68# shooting around 260 fps.arrows are the bemans ics camo 400.the sight is the Cobra Mystic lighted sights.125gr.Steelforce broadheads.I love the Bowtechs so much I bought the Pro38 for my 3d competions.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Yes, mine are the best!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> For a pure hunting bow the BowTech Mighty Mite is hard to beat. For hunting, 3D, and targets my P38 DC is best. There may be one better, though. I'll let you know when my Patriot DC arrives.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> BTW, my son says his Rascal is the best ever.<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
There are some really great bows out there.I still shoot two old mathews A MQ1 and a Ultra Max I still go and shoot all the new bows every year. I like the Bowtech Patriot as one of the newer bows the Hoyt Cyber Tech is a nice bow also. But they were not no better than that old MQ1 with 15 thousand arrows off it.:)
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
My favorites are PSE's Nitro and Team Primos. I also really like shooting the Forge F2 and PF34.
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Black Eagle my ass! First of all, when I ordered it they told the shop 3 months----production will begin on xxxxx date and I was 30 something on the list! Ok fine!! Well a few days later I had a bow---alll black signed buy some one special, I guess!!
I shot the first 5 1/2 arrows through it and the top limb cable harness broke......THEN.....Oneida was going to "over night" me a new set "'cause I was PISSED......"over night was 3 weeks.......THEN....the shop put the cable on and test fired it about 5 & 1/2 times....GUESS WHAT....YEP! It broke on the store owner! Needless to say, Oneida gave him so much HELL over that bow. He sent his remaining stock back and dropped them! There customer service really sucks!! I did love my old Phantom though!!! That was a nice bow! for it's time!! IN THE KILLZONE! |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I think you're pretty close right now. Right brand, just the wrong bow for you. Log onto www.benpearson.com and get a preview of the 2003 models. Quite a few GOOD changes including barings in every wheel and lifetime warranty. I had the 38" Special for 2002 and it is super. I have just ordered my new Freedom. Later this summer I'll most likely get a Raptor and another Freedom, or maybe a Freedom Pro. Now this is made for accuracy. These bows with VIB-X have virtually no felt vibration. I know this sounds like a ad for them but I believe in what I shoot and the results I get.
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Yes my bow is the best for me. I love my Mathews Legacy. It's quiet, wickedly smooth, has plenty of power, and is consistant. I am absolutely satisfied with this bow, and I am very hard to please. I'm not too keen on the super short ATA's either. There are a lot of good bows mentioned in the replies. I'd love to try that Stealth Force.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Im twenty years of shooting and owning new bow ever year. Im out of bowhunting bow buisness. This new Mathews Legacy is everting I was looking for in hunting bow. Its great! Do yourself a favor and go shoot one and you will see what all the Legacys owners are tlikng about. I am sponsered shooter and can shoot any bow in store. I choose what works not names.
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I have the Carrera and think it will do me just fine. Why so many bows? are you 3-D or killer? Good hunting.
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I've shot Stemmler, Pearson, Golden Eagle, Martin, Jennings, Hoyt, and Mathews. But the best bow I've ever shot, and presently own is a Champion. Made in Canada, very popular there. Becoming more so in the US, just put out there 2003 line.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I don't know if it's the best.... but it's the nicest sweetest thing to shoot I've come across in 32 years of bowhunting. The Darton Maverick with the recurve limbs, 37 1/2 inch axle to axle. Not to big and not to short. Best pulling and easiest pulling bow I've EVER handled. Fast, reliable, easy to tune, killing machine, reasonably priced.... WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it is the best. A close second would be the Darton Cyclone. A tad longer and a great finger shooter bow.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
OMG< No Mathews comes close to a BK 2????? Obviously you shoot a small draw length (under 28") because the BK2 isn't a nice shooting bow at all at a 30" draw, 28" yes but not 30. My Patriot shoots very nice, for a hunting bow. It would be nice if Bowtech would make it in a 31" draw though. By the way, at 30 and 31" draw lengths Mathews makes about 3 bows that shoot nicer than a BK2, the Q2XL, the Legacy and the Q2.

I've shot alot of bows and the one that felt best to me is the Mathews icon. It's a zen like experience
|
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
pinmaster, I'm curious. What difference does draw length make in the shootability of the BKII? I draw 29", and my P38 DC shoots fine. I shot one at 30" (too long for me) and saw no difference. If you're used to the Mmmaaattt...., you probably have a hard time with the extra speed.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Phil. "Could you guys be quiet, my dad's trying to shoot."<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
pdq,
Though not necessarily agreeing with him I would say that a 2 inch increase in draw length can definitely add to different shooting characteristics of any given bow. The most obvious difference is the increase in stored and released energy thus making any bow louder with more noise and recoil. The longer draw length creates a longer power stroke which means that the bow is going to be less forgiving of shooting errors. Any bow at a 30 inch draw length is going to be noisier with more recoil and vibration and more critical to shoot than a 28 inch draw length model if both bows are using identical setups. But then again, rarely would someone use the same arrows with a two inch difference in draw length...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Now, back to the original question...:)....no question, Hoyt Razortec. Just shoot it. It speaks for itself. |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Sorry to hear that you haven't found the right bow yet. Should have tried a Martin. My cougar speed flite is 12 years old and it has never failed me. If you want to go to the bow shop every year a few times to get your expensive bow fixed when it fails you, get one of those other bows.
But if you want a bow that will last and hunt with you year after year get a Martin. But I am only shooting 1" groups at 20 yards with fingers and muzzy broadheads, Maybe those other bows are more accurate. |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
2 Bows only:
Either the Champion Mustang or Bowtech Mighty Mite * Never shoot at the first deer you see, wait for the MONSTER that's lagging behind * |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Ive had the hoyt razortech for about a month now and it is the best bow i have ever owned. I sold four mathews and two bowtechs this year and i dont regret it at all.

Are you related to PA Bowhunter.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Come on Frank, is this you in disquise.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Glad you like your bow Switched..... You sure do know how to make an entrance into the fire. You'll have those Mmmmmmmmmmmm .... MMMMMmmmmmm..... MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... (well you know) coming unglued with such sacreligious things as selling you MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmsssss. One other thing.... you could have had a Darton.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Edited by - davidmil on 12/09/2002 20:52:17 |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
im not related although i found his review to be helpful and accurate. i also think that both the mathews and the bowtechs were good solid bows but the razortech seems to have all of it in one package at least for me it does.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
No David..it isn't me. Honest, I swear! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
The easiest way of telling the difference is the fact that he publicly admitted to owning some Mathews....<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I've always been partial to PSE's...BUT, I've only owned three bows in my life....I try to stick with one that I'm comfortable with for a while.....I just bought a PSE Firestorm this year that fits me like a glove....it's short, like me.....it's stout, like me....LOL.....anyway, it just fits me.......BUT, the proof is in the puddin, and even though I've never owned one, the Mathews Bows win alot of competitions.....
In our line of work, we must be able to play Dixie and the Battle Hym of the Republic, With Equal Enthusiasm. |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
pdq 5oh.... I shot a PSE Baby G 5 Years ago at 328 fps, shot a PSE Carrera 4 years ago at 322 fps and a Q2XL the last 3 years at 315 fps, so to answer your question, NO, I am not having a hard time with the extra speed (speed still doesn't help you judge yardage or make the shot for you).A BK II at 30" draw would like to jump right out of your hand, at 28" it shoots just fine, Why? I haven't a clue, it just does, nobody even mentioned the Pro 38 and it isn't a fair comparison to the BK II they are 2 totally different bows. To answer your next question before you ask it, I am shooting a Pro 40 Wheely this year for 3D and as I said before, I hunted with a Patriot this year. Also, FYI, I've played the 3D game (IBO and ASA) for over 5 years now, don't comment on me like I'm some kind of beginner or something, Thanks.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Not to offend anyone, but if anyone buys a bow because they win alot of tournaments or kills alot of deer, you are a sucker.
Mathews just has more money to pay for the best shooters, If you put all those Mathews shooter on any other bow, they will still take home as many trophies.... Like I said, this is just my opinion (I own an old faithful MQ1)and not trying to offend anyone... * Never shoot at the first deer you see, wait for the MONSTER that's lagging behind * |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
Well I purchased a Fred Bear TRX in February and it was my first bow that I ever owned. I had never even shot a bow before going shopping......I had done research but never shot even one arrow.
10 months later this is the shot I made on a 6 pt during my first year in the woods with a bow. ![]() Sure looks like I made the right choice to me :) |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
pinmaster, it was not my intention to offend you. I figured the smiley faces would point that out. It was more a friendly jab at Mmmaaattt. It was also never my intention to portray you as a beginner. Sorry to have been taken the wrong way. The P38 DC IS very similar to the 2002 BKII. And I stand by my statements regarding the two bows. As PAB pointed out, there may be some increased recoil with the longer draw. I doubt to the extent you claim. I've shot both and don't see it the same way as you. Are you, by chance, speaking of the 2001 BKII? That is a totally different bow.

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
What about "Stick" Bows??? I am leaning toward the new Alpine--Shot it last week! WOW! What do ya think!
I like the Legacy too, but, no Mat dealrs around here have a range to test shoot bows! They look pretty on the wall though!! The Hoyt dealer here just fell under CLOSED!! So that kind of narrows it down! After bow season, It's OPEN season on a new and FINAL bow!!!-John IN THE KILLZONE! |

RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I had a reflex extreme an it was an awesome bow.
I picked up 2002 ultra tec and it is one of the best bows I ever shot. I recently had the chance to shot a 2003 razor tec. It was smooth, very quiet, and very nice all around bow. |
RE: I need a new bow!-Is yours the best?
I shoot a Mathews Leagacy, it's smooth, forgiving, accurate, and fast. I know this probably fits many others to, but it's the best for me.
