RedLion,
I've heard the dark of the moon or the new moon has more to do w/ the peak breeding.
Is that what u are referring to?

I swear by the new moon. I make sure I hunt it when I can. When I book a out of State hunt I see when the new moon is for that month. One of the best days I had in the woods was two years ago when there was a lunar eclipes. The deer that day went BONKERS. I seen Bucks chaseing does all day. I seen Spikes 4,6,7,8,10 point bucks all day Unfriging out of this world. I didnot get a deer that day because the deer would never stop to give me a shot, but what a show!! I think the next Lunar Eclipes is in 2009. I knowI will be in the woods that day!!!

I look at the moon predictions when I think the weather maybe turning cooler, in middle to late oct an nov, thats about the only time I check moon phases.

Hatchetjack,
Do you hunt around the new moon? Before it ,during that week, or after it?
You are the second person to mention the new moon.
What's the theory behind it?

The site below more accurately reflects what I mean.

Are we refering to the same thing? I was refering to the piece about moon phases not being a supported determinor of rutting behavior and that sunlight is the activator.

Archer58. I think part of the reason hunting the new moon is there is less light because the moon is dark. When the moon is bright the deer tend to feed more and go back to their beds early. During the rut all bets are off though. I love the New moon!
