I just called Nebraska Game and Parks and found out that the Mentor Program's coordinator's name is Jeff Rawlinson. I called his office and found out that he's in meetings all morning. I left word with his secrtary to have him email me with all the information to send money this afternoon. As soon as I get it, I'll post it on here. KEEP IT LEGAL. KEEP IT SAFE. Just got a email from Jeff Rawlinson, coordinator of the mentor program at Nebraska Game and Parks. Here's what he said. Thank you for your interest and concern over the recent and most unfortunate incidents impacting our Youth Mentored Hunting Program at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The loss of those stands to our expanding program was a tough blow, especially to the kids who have been moving them all season as they learn and put themselves in position to harvest their first deer. Your offer of a contribution is most appreciated as we continue to develop this very popular and necessary program across Nebraska. Any interested parties who would like to make a monetary donation are certainly welcome to do so by making checks payable to the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation. Those can be sent to my attention at 21502 W HWY 31, Gretna, NE 68028. Your donations will be greatly appreciated as we try to rebuild from this most unfortunate incident. As negative as this action has been, the kids have learned some very important lessons. Most importantly, with individuals such as yourself, they have learned that there is a good amount of support for them as they continue their endeavors in the hunting sports. Once again, thank you for your support as it is only because of concerned hunters such as yourself that good solid programs such as this are able to not only survive but thrive. Bowdacious, this is a great idea, and I'm going to contribute. I think it's probably best for all of us if we send it to the Nebraska G&P guys - especially to Jeff Rawlinson who, like Budbowhunter pointed out, heads up this effort. That way he hears the voices of all hunters and not just myself. This all only works if we stand together. Nothing would please those kids more than to see a couple bucks from so many of us help them get some replacement stands.
I think we should all mention this forum in our donations and encourage Jeff and his students to visit us here. |

Personally, I would rather see a collection taken up from somebody on the board, and the money be used to buy stands and then given to the organization. I fear that sending a donation directly to the Nebraska Games and Parks Commission would go into a general fund, or a donation fund, and the possibility that it would not go to the kids stands is too great. I could see our local dept of fish and game taking the donations and putting them into a fund going to programs like that, but that in no way guarantees the kids will get it. Does anybody feel the same way, or am I being paranoid? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Look, we <u>always</u> seem to have a few extra bucks for: new fletching or vanes arrows broadheads limb-savers stuff extra tags a new deer call a newer fancier stand deer pee (at about $60 per gallon!) etc etc etc So here's a chance to help KIDS learn to love the same sport we cherish and dream about all year...a chance to make a difference, to DIRECTLY help people that were undeservedly ripped off! Think about how those kids will feel when they see their first deer approaching their tree stand! Think about how they will remember that moment forever! I'm in. I hope my fellow bowhunters take 3 minutes and 5 dollars and help these kids. We'll call them "Bow's Kids" <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> and we could do it again for others next year! Seriously, this could be the start of something really great.  |
