Spouses Who Hunt?
The, anyone "not allowed" to keep a mount in the house, post gave me the idea to pose this question:
How many of you are hunters whom have spouses that hunt? I'm not sure how to do the poll thing on this, so if anyone wants to help me out on that - go for it. My wife and I hunted together on our second date. She is a rifle hunter, but only really hunts when I or her dador brothersgoes with her. I bought her a bow and worked with her on it, but she never really wanted to shoot unless I was there. Which I was, but to be a serious bow hunter I think you have to be driven to do it on your own, etc. She has taken a cow elk on her own. This year she took 4 muley does and a 150 class muley buck. When we got married, she had a muley, whitetail and antelope mounts to add to our collection. She doesn't get into serious climbing, walking, scouting, etc..., she just likes to go out one day, bam, and have a deer or three down. I enjoy making sure she has an opportunity to do that every year. |
RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
I think I posted this befor, But here goes. When my Son-in-law calls from Kansas and wants to talk Deer hunting, He asks for My Wife! She is a Fly Fishing and Bird Hunting Licensed Guide. She raises and trains German Shorthaired pointers. Pulls a 60# hunting Bow, and has killed more deer with a Bow than most Men (I know thats hard for some men to swallow, but its true!) If it was not for Her, we would go meatless around heremost seasons, and we go by the, if you kill it, you gut it rule! She was the womens western Kentucky Bowhunting Champ 2 years running, a State 3-D champ, and carried a 298 average on the last league we shot on (She had a Bit of target panic, I had to put her on the Stan. for a while) The last Buck She shot with her 7mm was paced off at 175 large paces, and the Heart rolled out of its chest when cleaned. In 1976 in front of some members of the Marine Corp pistol team, she shot a smiley face on a human silhouette at 25 meters with a Model 29 S&W 44mag, long befor Mell (make belive)Gibson did it in Lethal Weapon!!Two seasons ago she missed a total of 2 day's hunting from Oct 1 to Jan 1. Hay, I married the perfect Woman, she can shoot your Eye out, put meat on the table,And Cook to!

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
My wife hunts as well. She hunts with bow and muzzleloader. She has taken 3 deer with her bow, she killed her first antlered buck this year, a nice 7 pointer, and a doe. She has killed 2 deer with her muzzleloader, a nine pointer this year. She is a very good shot with both weapons and out shoots me about half the time. I just bought her a new bowtech equalizer for valentines day. I can't wait to see what she will do with that.

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
My wife loves to hunt. Just rifle so far. She really doesn't have the time to devote to bowhunting 'cause of the 2 kids.
The kids 10 & 8 are anxious to go with us. |
RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
A spinoff poll eh?:D
I voted under the "Asked to hunt but won't." She has went hunting with me before but I don't see her out in the cold sitting quietly in a tree by herself. |

Hey now, where do I get to vote? My spouse hunts, but, there is not an answer labeled husband who hunts. ;)

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
My wife loves to hunt. She has killed 2 turkeys, numerous whitetails, lots of ducks, and a chocolate phase black bear.

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
After 6 years of marriage my wife has decided to take up hunting. I told her that it would be a perfect oppritunity for us to spend time together, with our children. I'm hoping this is going to be great memories for our children, as well as, educational!

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
I didn't see: "Used to until we had kids but hope she rejoins me in the field in the future!" ;)
She hadn't hunted prior to meeting me and in her brief hunting career shot a ten point buck with her shotgun andharvesteda doe her first bowseason. Also shot a coyote through the heart, on the run, with her 12 gauge Remington 1100 shooting slugs. She is one up on me there. |
RE: Spouses Who Hunt?

Feel sorry for you guys that have someone you either "don't want to hunt" or has ANY kind of problem with hunting... I love it!!!!!!! I love that my BF and I do it together and/or apart.. took my first one this past year ... He was a little worried because I took a day off .. Woods by myself ... Took her, gutted her and drug her out by myself.. Very proud of it. Can't wait until I can get one up on the wall bigger than his biggest.

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
I'm just going to be honest...and hope I don't get flamed.
My wife is a BEAUTIFUL lady. She's supportive of my endeavors....and I try to include her in anything SHE WANTS to be involved in. I've tried to get her to shoot bows....even targets, ONLY. She's not interested. She understands my passion....but it hold no interest for HER. She understands how seriously I take this endeavor, personally, and it holds no such interest FOR HER. She's also the first person I seek to tell about what I see in the woods. She LOVES hearing the stories of the things I see.....and she's evn hinted that she wants to go and observe. I'll set a ladder stand for her, this Fall.....and we'll see. I was once a PGA Professional.....and I asked her if she'd like to play golf with me. No dice. No interest, FOR HER. We spend LOTS of time together.....and I love her and our son more than anything. We just have different interests, SOMETIMES. We both also think this is healthy. I don't go out without her....nor she without me. I don't take long hunting trips/golf trips with "the boys". That holds no interest FOR ME. I love my wife very much. We just have different interests.......and we both agree that it's healthy. This is what works FOR US. I'm glad what others are doing works FOR THEM. There is NO "right" or "wrong" way for everyone. |

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
My wife hunts & she is a good hunter. She has a Bull Moose on the wall, a 12-point whitetail buck at the taxidermist shop. She has taken several nice antelope bucks also.
I wonder what my hunting would be like IF she did not like tohunting? |
RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
Hoytgirl:
I sincerely thank you. I was afraid people would give me a hard time because......in the back of my mind.....it bothers me NOT that she doesn't want to hunt. I don't even care that she doesn't want to shoot. I like that we have our own special interests that we do independently. Am I excluding her? Far from it. Do I REALLY want her to come hunting with me? Hard to say. I know it doesn't bother me that she doesn't. I'm just being honest. Thanks for not taking it the wrong way. |
RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
For me... It's an amazing feeling having the one you love the most, be with you sharing the outdoors. My spouse&I love to hunt more than anything, and I thank god for everyday we get to spend together.

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
My wife spends little time actually hunting with me as of now. She does hunt and likes it but is waiting for the boys to get a little older. Often when I am out, she is home with the kids and if fine with that. Shes killed a whitetail buck so far. She goes with me scouting sometimes and helps me hang stands in the summer. As a family we all plan on hunting much more together in the future as our 3 and 5 year old get closer to that full time hunting age. We are planning to havebear camp this spring in the back country for the entire family and any friends that want to come up. Archery bear sites over bait or spot and stalk sites for rifle.

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
Mine doesn't hunt but shelikes deer meat.
Now hook the Ranger up to the truck and head to the lake and she is the first one in the truck. She loves the outdoors and camping / fishing. But she couldn't shoot an animal. She has talked about maybe doing some 3D. My daughter on the other hand is a killing machine. MC |

RE: Spouses Who Hunt?
I have been married now for about two and a half years and she had no hunting experience at all. City girl married country boy! Since then she will now walk with us on bird hunts she loves watching the dogs work, and she has gone turkey hunting with me. She missed her turkey this last season but this year I am sure she will get one. I just love sharing the experience with her. It was one of my dreams to be married to a woman that loves the out doors. We are expecting our first child Sep. 4th so being able to take my kid will be a blast too! (No pun intended)
