I believe in first blood if the first blood came from a lethal shot including gut if the shooter makes the correct effort. Of course that situation rarely happens in archery season, for me, it's never happened.

To me...killing shot gets the critter.
To the law in my state.....whomever has their tag on it.

9/10th's of the law is possesion, you tag it pretty much yours from what a dnr gent told me.
