What say you about Silver lined clothing?
Ok, I've read enough about carbon, how about X-static and similiar clothing that claims to use silver to stop bacteria from becoming odorous? Any scientific studies known on public record? According to the manufacturers, independant research by the U.S. Military and the medical industry has confirmed the effectiveness of silver ion flux to prevent odor. Supposedly it cannot wash out because the silver ion flux is permantly integrated into the clothing fibers. I am taking it for granted it could/should help with body odors, but I am wondering if the manufacturers are using enough of the silver ion flux to be effective.

I like it so far but mainly because it seems to be quite warm. I was busted the first few times with it on in early season so not sure how effective it is containing scent. But it comfy. I thought the tag said keeps you cool in warm temps and warm in cool temps but never really noticed to cool-in-warm temps part. I mainly used them as a base layer later on in season.

aerosslinger, I recently bought a set of the X-scent clothing.....found it on clearance after Xmas. I figured it might work as a good baselayer for wicking moisture away and am hoping it helps stop body odors before they develop.

RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
The only scent control I used this year was X-Scent long johns and DDW spray. Never got busted and killed my biggest buck and doe to date. I was, however, very picky about matching stand locations to wind directions. Now I wear the X-Scent long johns all the time because they are comfortable and pretty warm for being so light weight.

I second this, killed my biggest buck to date. I do have to say I had the prefect wind though. I have been using them for a 2 years now. I am still fighting over any of these scent blocker type clothing due to it dont matter how much you protect your bad breath still gets out no matter what. Just my little thought. One last thing nobody allways breaths through there nostrils im sure if they try eventually they breath out of their mouth.

I also started wearing xscent this year... the clothing is an excellent base layer and the science behind it.... the way they explain it.... makes sense to me. I am optimistic about it.

I've used it the past 2 years. Just with anything its one step in the process of a scent elimination routine. But it does hold up well to multiple uses without any noticeable odor compared to other clothes without silver ion.

Can I say..... "SNAKE OIL".[8D][8D]

RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
I have as much confidence in them as I do in carbon based garments, none. Silver does have antibacterial qualities according to my research, but cannot nuetralize L-Serine, the compound responsible for our unique "human odor". Hunt the wind.

I read this and things looked pretty good till I got to the bottom where they discussed the odor eliminating testing they had done. They left the results of that testing rather vauge and only mentioned testing done on two fabrics, wool and polyester. They went into no detail about the results except to say they were "Exceptionly effective" .They were tested on a 6 hour effectiveness time frame which is supposed to simulate real life situations. And for that matter why buy the clothing when you can just make your own with this handy little washing machine:D http://www.samsung.com/PressCenter/PressRelease/PressRelease.asp?seq=20060213_0000233684 All your clothing could be charged with silver Ions and nobody would ever have to take a bath again;)Think Ill stick with my other clothing for now, at least untill I need a new washing machine. |
RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
Well since the topic of peeing from your stand has been discussed over and over, with the general opinion that it doesn't bother deer, I'm going to form a self help group. I figure if we all gather at the trucks before entering the woods and piss on each other, we'll be set. No more worry about spooking deer. The perfect scent eliminator, "Pee On you Buddy". You got to admit, it might be better than Snake Oil.

RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
I have a set of the X-scent stuff and like it. I tested it for myself by wearing the socks for 2 hunts in a row (without washing) and then taking a good healthy wiff. Did the same thing with my regular wool socks. I won't say that there was no odor in the X-scent, but it was very little. There was significantly more odor in the wool.
For the most part the conditions were the same: Temp, length of hunt, distance hiked to stand, etc. I realize this is not a scientific study, but they are my results. |
RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
Just another money maker in my eyes.[:@]

RE: What say you about Silver lined clothing?
the science behind it makes sense to me too. I think it's more realistic then carbon since it doesn't have to be "re-charged" but I'm not to sure. I haven't tried it out for myself, so I can't really say anything about how effective it really is. The research and science behind it makes sense to me though.
