RE: Politically correct bowhunters
ORIGINAL: Germ I just believe you can tell story without the "shock" value. HCH your story is just fine with me. There are a ton people who really do not care that we hunt, all I am saying is we do not rub them the wrong way. Call mePC, wussie, sensitive I really do not care. HCH why is your buck so small[8D] I thoght they were all 190's in Iowa If Don were to have blatantly exaggerated his story, emphasizing the gore involved in what we do, then that would have been added for shock value. I think thats the main point being made, having to tone down a simple story because of the "shock value" involved just means we're catering to the anti's and non-hunting crowd. I'm not saying its wrong, but I don't believe its necessary either. |
RE: Politically correct bowhunters
ORIGINAL: hardcorehunter ORIGINAL: GMMAT HCH....I used the no drinking rule at NCAA events and the absence of cigarette sponsorship at NASCAR(you say no advertising .....I won't argue) to prove a point. With ALL th erevenue generated by those sports (insert hunting revenues to correlate).....the special interest groups (read anti's...again, for correlation) STILL had the power to have alcohol sales at NCAA events banned and to have RJReynolds (world's largest tobacco leader) removed from NASCAR sponsorship. Your acknowledgement, as if an answer, would simply lead to a future answer to someone else's question. You figure out the question and ponder fora while the "why's". Answer: Because hunting is illegal maybe we should change your name to hardheadedhunter(just a little joke) but i am sure you can handle it because of all the attention that you have received fromt his topic. I don't know if you saw my post at the top of page 6 but it is all about perseption. It is about what the masses, the other 80% think. Compare the money bowhunting creates with the money that the other 80% control and that should give you an idea of who has the power. You should also think about all of the opposition you have received in this thread. If most of the bowhunting community doesn't agree with you then what do you think the antis would do. My whole point is that you may NOT loose the right to bowhunting but you are hendering the sport by portraiting it in a bad light to the general public. |
RE: Politically correct bowhunters
How's it coming with getting that type language and shots on TV, Don?
I'm not making fun of you, Don....I'm telling you that nobody on the air, today, uses NON-"tactful" language because they know what we know. You underestimate the VAST MAJORITY of people in this country (the people who don't hunt)....and you risk your livelihood (in their instance) and your passion (in ours). I can't make it any clearer than that. If you disagree....that's fine. I'm a big boy....I respect your opinion. But there's areason TV shows today aren't depicted the way your story is. Why do YOU think that is????? |

RE: Politically correct bowhunters
Dan....
You really think he's the only one with that approach? Do you think Lee and Tiffany have a producer with the funding that they have to answer to? Do you think ALL the hunting TV shows have someone to answer to? Do you think they let them depict their hunts like Don's suggesting? Do you wonder WHY? |
RE: Politically correct bowhunters
ORIGINAL: Hiawatha ORIGINAL: _Dan Like I said earlier, in Ontario it doesn't matter how it affects the economyin the NW part of the province. The money means nothing. Take a look that the size of Ontario. The laws are being made by those from the southern part of the province. City folk. These same people have ZERO clue what goes on in the NW. Sad but true. |

On this forum tell it like it is, Don's post is fine, but please have the smarts when your in public(company you do not know) to tone it down. Dan I work in a pretty liberal town, I have all my pictue here at work, and a nice srap book my daughter made. When people ask to look at it I let them know. "There are picture of dead deer, and coyotes in traps in the book, I just want to let you know" 99% they take a look and ask some question. No big deal, a little kindness goes a long way. Plain and simple, most of us do not like things shoved in their face. So lets not shove hunting in people faces. Let the ARA do that and trip all over themsleves. Yes HCH I am PC bowhunter in certain situations, and I am proud of it. |
RE: Politically correct bowhunters
Don:
Your orignal question entailed a LOT more than that (I just went back and read it). But for the sake of DISCUSSION.....I'd say the photo and story as depicted HERE won't have ANY effect on the hunting world. You could probably throw in a "hell-yeah" as you say you watched the deer go down with no consequences. Heck....you might even get away with a shot of hoytgirl kicking the downed rascal! (just joking, just joking) Alone....nothing. Your question was much larger, though. |
