RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
I'm sorry. My story was ridiculous.
Pronghorns have HORNS. Sorry.[&:] |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
LOL GregH. I know what you are saying; it is your arrow in it though. Act of God doesn't include human launched arrows does it?

RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
ORIGINAL: GMMAT What if you're playing hockey on a frozen pond......you shoot one for the 3-hole and miss, terribly....wounding a spotted owl who was just gettin some nooky and enjoying the fisticuffs? The owl then disengages himself and flutters into a thicket that holds not 7.....but EIGHT big pronghorns just home from the prom. They bolt into the highway and notice the deer about to be hit by a car.....and save him.....but one of their antlers gets caught in your SUV antennae and it flips him wildly into oncoming traffic. the flipping speed goat then lands....(feet first, mind you....) in a cattle carrier that's been commissioned to haul Aardvarks......yes...I said Aardvarks.....to the zoo opener. How much should they charge for admission? |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
Don:
I was just having fun....and you're right. It's more likely to happen to me than anyone I know. That being said....I have NO CONTROL over what happens to a deer that's been shot. What if I miss and it spooks? What if I miss it and it spooks another deer? What if a passerby spots me in my stand and head-ons another car? Where does it end???? |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
I know what you are saying Jeff, but as more and more of us partake in these city doe hunts and the way the suburbs are sprawling into our hunting lands it is a possible scenario.
I wonder what a jury would say as they displayed the arrow that was found in the deer as it ran out and caused a personal injury orfatality auto accident. |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
Believe it or not, I have wondered about the same thing. I'm sure that it has happened somewhere. I don't think you would be liable but who knows, some P.I. lawyer or insurance co. would love to give it a shot.
In Illinois the driver of the vehicle gets to keep the deer, no tag needed (unless you want to take to a taxidermist). |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
I'm going to go with GregH on this one. I believe the pangs of death that your arrow causes, in no way guides a deer directly into traffic "purposely". He hasa 360 deg area to choose from when shot. This is as close to an act of God as you can legally get I think.
And by the way, man they must have killer drugs in your area GMMAT.[:-] LT |
RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
This happened to me but it was not a trophy. I made the shot and was listening for him to go down and I heard the crash. The horn on the car was stuck on. So I got out of the stand went and got my truck and drove out there. The lady that hit the deer was ok her car was totaled. I felt realy bad for her but when the cops came they gave me a car deer kill tag even with my arrow sticking out of it.(the part that was left) The cops gave her a ride into town and I was out of there. Karma got me though I was on my way out to eat when I hit a deer and did 5 grand in damage to it.

RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
I too have pondered this possibility. I have deer coming thru my backyard from time to time and have thought about positioning myself onthe deck and trying my luck (I live in the 'burbs), but then I think about the deer running into the road or worse, crashing in a neighbors yard, not quite expired, the kids come out, see the deer, the deer goes berserk....and the rest makes the 6 o'clock news. I'll give up on the backyard hunt, and stick to the woods. Less stuff to worry about.

RE: Question, hunting near roads or hwys??
I would probably watch to see if the driver was okay, then I would haul arse out of there before the cops show up.
