Default Mini DV Camera (scouting/shooting/etc...)

I just bought a mini DV camera and it should arrive, today. I plan to use it for scouting and hunting/filming next year and immediately (looking forward to turkey season).....but I wondered what else you guys used yours for (Ok....let's keep this archery or at LEAST PG...lol).

If you were serious about form and such....that could be shared with everyone, as well. 3D shoots.....hunting areas....I guess are all within a click.

Also....does anyone know if they make rewriteable discs for these cameras. The non-rewrites are pretty cheap (about $2).....but a rewriteable disc would eliminate the need to have several (I bought 10 to start with).

What would you use a camera for?????

Thanks, in advance, for your responses.

GMMAT, I have a Canon ZR200 digitalminicam with a 20X zoom. It takes stills and video. The sound is unreal!I take video's when I'm recovering my deer, it's neat. Also, just filming deer from a stand is alot of fun as well. Along with the ability to take regular pics it's a nice camera.

I have no idea of the model I just bought.....but it came down to the Cannon and the Sony. I bought the Cannon because it has a 25X zzom (vs the 20X on the Sony).....and it had the image stabilization feature (if your hand is shaking). I know nothing about them.

GMMAT, I take it you bought a Mini DVD not a Mini DV? Mini DV's take tapes, not discs.
There are re-writable disc available. They run about $27 for five discs. You should have gone with the Sony. They have image stabilization too andbetter low light visibilty. That way you can catch those last minute of daylight bucks.

I have my reasons, nohillbilly......and I'll PM you. Mine takes the mini DVD's....but i thought it was called the mini DV (I thought the tapes were super-8"s????). I dunno.

Thanks for the heads-up on the discs. the Sony i was comparing mine to did NOT have the image stabilization.....for the same price as the one I bought....and it had the 20X (vs. my 25X) zoom. That's why i went with the one I did.

I picked up a cannon zr500 mini dv last month. It has a 25 zoom and have so far used it for some shed hunting footage, coyote hunting, quadding and a fishing trip. It seems to work well but i do require a bipod cause i shake like a blind fagget at a weiner roast. I am also impressed with the sound quaility for such a lil we camera. For hunting related activities i will be using it this summer heavy to scout and send clips to those who are interested or post some up here if i get some dandy stuff. I plan on videoing my hunts this fall. I also would like to make a video of how to properly skin, gut an animal and offer it to others. Will set it up on myself a few times while shooting to see if i have any bad habits that i am unaware of. On a non hunting note i am using the camera for univeristy assignments and once i get out teaching i will use the camera to video sports i coach then rip a highlightdvd for all of the players on my team each year.

I made a bracket to mount my mini DV cam to my stabilizer.
It is very cool to be able to play back a shot and see/hear just how much your bow vibrates- or lack of vibration in my particular case

I'm gonna get one, somewhere. Someone has one for sale....and I'd buy one rather than make one ...only because of weight. I'm gonna do this, this Fall. I want to film my hunts.

Jeff,
Get the bracket that mounts to the tree. Trust me I don't think you would be very happy mounting it to your bow.
