Default Picture test - 2001 Iowa Buck and story

My first attempt at sending a picture. This buck was taken Nov 6th while he was chasing a doe. Thank you to Dave for finally getting the picture posted. However I'm going to keep trying to get it right. Computer is working fine it's my human element that keeps giving me problems.
Here is the story of that days hunt from my hunting journal that I've been making the last few years to leave for my grandkids and hopefully for generations to come. I only embelished on one paragrah and I'm sure you'll be able to tell.
Monday night November 5th the start of my vacation, luckily my bow gets fixed and I picked it up that night. Rick's hunted out and doesn't want to go in the morning. November 6th I'm up and in my stand 30 minutes before shooting time. The rut is on and I plan on staying in the stand as long as I can. The weather is still warm, high expected that day will be around 70 degrees. I'm hunting my stand and the winds are suppose to be out of the south, which is in my face. I like a south wind when hunting my stand. I see a deer cross in front of me about 75 yards up the slough, to far and too thick to see what it is. Later I happen to turn around and see a buck making his way across a clearing about 50 yards away. He's downwind and finally scents me and heads back into the woods too my right. At least I'm seeing deer. About 45 minutes later I look to my right and see a doe at the edge of the woods. She makes her way to the edge of the clearing headed my way. She's definitely shootable. I'm sitting on my bucket up about 18 feet in my deer stand. I don't want to try and stand up because she may catch the movement so I slowly rotate on the seat. As I'm doing this I hear and see brush moving behind her. She comes to the center of the clearing below my stand about 15 yards away. Out comes a buck to the edge of the clearing. Buck-doe-buck-doe, is going thru my mind. Which do I want? A doe is better eating, but I have a buck tag to fill. Don't be stupid take the buck.
As the doe passes from my peripheral vision I twist a little more to my right. The doe senses something and darts back to the center of the clearing. She see's the buck and heads back away from him. His attention is on her and he advances toward the center of the clearing only 15 yards away. This is my first sitting down shot. I've practiced this shot at home but not from a tree stand. I can feel the twist in my body. The bow is at full draw. I can see the red sight pin against the brown hair at his shoulder. I hope I don't have the bow off canter. It's now or never as I feel my thumb pressing the release. WACK - the arrow hits home. The buck whirls to his left and bounds towards the clearing next to the road. He's in full view not 30 yards away as he stops, wavers and drops. Time elapsed since I let the arrow go, not even 15 seconds. I can see the deer from my vantage point and he doesn't even kick once. I hear the doe off to my right bound into the woods. All there is now is the sound of the wind thru the trees and the thumping against my chest.
Now the work begins. I take extra precautions as I climb down from my stand. Now is no time to be careless. As I approach the deer a sense of accomplishment overwhelms me and I drop to my knees face raise to the shy. Tears roll down my flaccid cheeks staining my camouflaged shirt. I let out a blood curdling , primeval warriors yell to Thor, thanking him for warm blood to quench my thirst.
Not really - after checking to make sure the deer is dead I begin the chore of field dressing and think about the drag up the bank. While field dressing the deer I see a nice clean hole thru this heart. This is the biggest buck I've ever shot. It does feel good to have made a good clean kill. I can taste those inside tenders already.
Luckily I'm not far from the road. It does take me awhile to get him up the bank and then up into the truck. I'd put the head on the tail gate, lift the body and the head falls off, put the rear end on the tail gate grab the head and the rear end falls off. Do this a couple of times, get pissed and body slam the deer up into the truck. Mission accomplished and no heart attack.
