Seems like every year I think about getting one to try, but don't. Maybe next year.

They sure do work. Look at this BRUTE who came into the decoy this fall :D. The doe and fawn ignored it but this little guy (button buck) actually postured at the decoy for a couple minutes. It was fairly amusing to watch thefawn buckact like atuff guy [8D]

I started using one this year and man was it awesome. I shot a doe second week of October with her nose inches from a white flag I attached to her rear end soaked in Tinks. In the first week of November I attached a small six point rack. I worked a nice ten a couple hundred yards across a soy field only to blow the shot at fifteen yards. Brought in a basket seven that was a little cautious and never came out of the thick but was only ten yards to my right side also had a spike stand and swell and pin his ears back five yards from the decoy for about fifteen minutes. My opinion they work very well in bringing deer across fields and large openings you may have never got a shot across.

Ikilled my 140 class this year as he came in to kick my decoys a$$, i also have a bunch of footage of other bucks walking around it and posturing..What we have found out we use a buck decoy and only use one antler so even the little bucks will challege it.. Walt

I am considering one for this comming year only I am thinking 2 standing and one laying down so I'll have a total of 3 to simulate a deer heard, I wonder if that'll work as wellas a single standing one or do you think it would deter others from joining I think they are social animals aren't they?
what do you guys think

Are you set up right in this pic. I thought a buck will generaly approch from the rear of the decoy. Of course this little guy proves me wrong but he is just that, a little guy. And if your buck hunting wouldn't you use a buck decoy?

Abuck will approach another buck head on ready to fight,or run away. I usually remove one antler and leave a small one to make the decoy appear weak and vulnerable. A doe decoy will usually be approached from the rear esp. during the rut, best to place some estrous scent there. A large dominant decoy will intimidate many deer.

More often than not, (whenthey even show up)deer just ignore decoys, especially if they are not alone. Some are actually spooked. Those that show interestoften hang up out of range. Occassionally, one willsaunter over for a closer look and let you get a shot.Decoys arefun to play with throughout the season, but nothing I care to use with frequency.

This photo is over a decade old, and shows my first success with a homemade plywood deer cutout. The buck crossed a field to check out the "doe" fromabout 10 feet away on the last day of archery season...evidence that decoys don't need to be anything expensive or fancy.

The decoy is set up as a buck, if you look closely you will see his antlers in the beans. Bucks will almost always come in from the front or side. I have never saw a buck approach a buck decoy from behind.

It is the doe decoy where the buck will approach from behind.

I think Rick has the real deer and the decoy confused. He seems to be asking why you aren't using a buck decoy ( you are)

Do the doe decoys or the buck decoys work better? For buck hunting

RE: do decoys work for deer???

I've got the same deke buckeye's got above (the Carry-Lite), and set mine up slightly quartering to me... for the same reason: bucks will circle around to get in front of a rival buck.

Bullet Hole, I've seen lots and lots of commentary saying that dekes set up as does will spook other does, but if it's set up as a buck they'll ignore it. Because of that, I've never even set mine up as a doe.

I have a flambeau redi doe and I mounted antlers on it from an old 3d deer target. I have had some good success with it. When used stricktly as a doe I have had a lot of does spook at it. I plan on getting the buckwing bobble head buck this year and maybe bed the doe down beside him 5 yds away by taking off her legs.

I noticed does being extra cautious around a doe decoy. Stomping and snorting at it. Bucks are a different story:D

I have a carry lite and I agree with most statements regarding set up using it as a buck vs. doe. I haven't used it a lot as I just purchased it this year.

HCH-

I remember you posting a while back regarding the Buckwing bobble head buck and did some research and have yet to see one. The picture you posted a while back discussing that was actually a carry lite decoy that was assembled incorrectly. Have you heard any other information on the bobble head buck as I would be interested in seeing one and there isn't any information on their website?

We have been using them alot for the last couple years. Theres a book out called "Decoying Whitetails" by Tom Storm. This is a excellent book with great insight and tips. They also have a video and its got some great footage but the book is much more detailed.

We use our deoys with antlers. This year we had bucks come in and actually knock the decoy down.Very exciting..............
