RE: Could they find you??

some of my spots i fear noone would find me for a very long time. the state gamelands i hunt regularly is almost 11000 acres and once i get bored and start moving im moving...just let game sign lead me. i know where i am and have never been lost...but just because my stand spots are all known by dad when im walking it would take a search party to locate me.

another spot is a national forest. you can walk for days and only hit tiny dirt roads occassionally. sometimes they have traffic from hunters and anglers but sometimes when im back there im 5 miles from a hard road and need 4wd to get back there and walk pretty far from the truck after that seeing noone..no vehicles or houses or anything.

both spots a cellphone is useless. dad hunts and knows both areas and even when im at college and hunting i call home and let them know im hunting and dad knows the area i will be in incase i wouldnt show up back home. once i get cellphone service i call home and tell someone im driving back to school and im alright.

dangerous stuff...but thats what i love. i love the back country and hate seeing people and evidence of people. i just love to get away..im pretty confident that in an emergency id either get out or i could survive long enough to be found...but thats no situation id wanna be in. making myself a crutch and dragging myself out of the woods..or surviving back there till someone found me..but i am confident if i had to id be alright in the end

RE: Could they find you??

I usually hunt with a buddy or two and we always tell each other where we're going and when we plan on meeting back at the truck. We always have our cell phones with us as well. If I'm hunting alone I normally tell one of my hunting buddies where I'm going and I give him a call on the way home to tell him about what happened during the hunt. I hunt public land so there's always a chance that someone could walk up on me which sucks while you're in the stand[:@]

Sorry to hear about the ankle HC, and wish you a swift recovery. My Wife Has been my hunting partner for the last 25 years, even though we have never hunted within a mile of each other, we help set one anothers stands and always know were the other is hunting.

Someone always knows where I am. I will not go hunting without telling them exactly where I am going. My family and friends all have Garmin RINO 530s. They would come in very handy if something happens to locate someones position.

If at all possible i try not to hunt alone. We usually have a group that hunts a certain area and we'll break off into different directions. Usually I am no farther than a few hundred yards away from at least one member in my party. I usually carry my cell phone but a lot of the places we hunt dont have reception. If something happened(and i pray it doesnt) someone would find me.

RE: Could they find you??

I enjoy hunting by myself alot but some one always knows that I'm out and knows where most of my stand locations are. It's nice to get out there with no one aroundjust peace and quiet.
