I think that mature does actually have to be craftier than bucks, as they tend to have younger does and/or little ones with them, so responsible for more than one life. A buck just runs around taking care of himself.

Where I hunt the buck/doe ratio isn't too bad, but the mature buck/mature doe ratio is low. I pass up a number (20-30 including the same ones over and over) mature does a year, but I would agree that they can be just as spooky as a mature buck. In fact, the mature does that some really good bucks have been tailing have saved their butts by being so careful [:@]

Here's what "I" run into, guys.....

It seems these does are NEVER alone. They run in packs from 2 to 20. Typically.....I see 4-6 in a group. Someone who doesn't see a lot of deer might think the more targets you have under you.....the better. The day I shot my last deer, this season....I set out to shoot a doe. I had a group come in.....but with all the eyes and ears and noses.....I couldn't get bead on any of them. I was disheartened until the buck showed up. I NEVER had a shot opportunity on any of the does.

I find this to be true almost all the time.

I'm going to petition the P&Y club to start another category for big does. I'll also motion for the scoring method to be the measurement of the teats![:-]Who's got the biggest teats?
