RE: Recurve only season

I would much rather see an archers shooting skills test, than a special season for Recurves. Like 3 out of 5 shots in a football size kill zone at 25 yards, befor you can purchase a deer tag!!!
what would that prove ? of course you'll also require all rifle hunters to pass a similar test too, right ?

GregH I did misunderstand your post. Are you for or against crossbows in archery season ? Just curious, I won't debate it

Ohio is nice in that you can hunt archery throughout gun and muzzleloader seasons
Arkansas is like that as well

It will never happen so you can stop dreaming about a Recurve only season. Its still the same weapon no matter how you look at it, there for it falls under ARCHERY Licenese just as Muzzleloaders fall under your GUN license. But ther has been talk about making a seperate Muzzle loader license.

That's a really cool pic Greg. The clarity of the picture is incredible for an older (I'm assuming) photo. Must have had a real nice camera.

I had a real similar one however it was taken with an instant poloroid about 30 years ago. Not much left of the photo.

I don't think we will see an "general" deer season.... The manufacturers would not allow it..... Think about how many bowhunters and muzzleloader hunters would only gun hunt if allowed? It's more than you think.... That would cost millions, maybe billions to the bow and muzzleloader companies... That "ain't" happening.

A photographer from my dad's work came over and took it for the companys newsletter. My dad recieved a copy and eventually gave it to me. I just took it out of the frame and scanned it for use on the web. It was taken on Dec. 10th, 1968.

Thanks

Buster T, it is not to prove nothing, This is not a game of golf or pool, this is killing something, and if thay can't practice enough to pass some sort of skills test with their equipment of choice to do so ( including guns ) then thay can take up something like Hiking or Photography. Double creek, I'm not so sure, I have already seen over 10 weeks of Archery only season in this State get whittled down to 5. Who do you think has more money to spend on lobbying Gun or Archery Manufactures?

I like the current Wis. x-bow rules. I think you should have a disability to hunt with one.

so ......... lets say the guy that shoots very good groups on the range is a total mess when it comes to shooting live animals ? Or he takes 60 yard running shots ?

you cannot mandate ethical bowhunting - period

Gawd I'd love to debate that :)

You'll have to debate "that" by yourself.

Buster T, Someone who can't Hit a pie plate 3 out of 5 shots, and then goes Deer hunting, has no Ethics in the first place. Now you know, we go through life changing the things we can, and tolerateing the things we can't, I only wish there was a simple test for one's Ethics! And your not one of those Fellows that belive if you took a good shot and a bad shot with the same skill level as a Bowhunter, that the bad shot is going tokill more deer are you, Because that was made up by a bad shot!!
