Hunting equipment pet peeves
Do you have any? If so list them here and manufacturers........take notice! I have two from the start that deals with bowhunting/hunting clothes:
(1) Most do but some men's camo pants do not have zippers! Example: one of my favorite camo suits is a Cabela's Dry Plus suit and mine is quiet. Problem-no zipper!!! Didn't know that when I ordered it. It sucks if you are in your stand and need to relieve yourself. All men's pants should have a zipper!!!!!! (2) Bibs. Its hard to find bibs that have cargo pockets. Thats why I love camo pants, most come with cargo pockets...6 pockets in all. Put cargo pockets on all of the bibs!!!! Anyone else? |

hmmm... I'm sure I could think of plenty with the amount of time I put on stand... Right off the bat, I wish manufacturers making fixed position stands would use the multi-color camoflauge straps instead of the solid black ones. Those big broad black horizontal stripes on light-colored trees stick out way too much for my liking -- especially with the rise of stand thieves in recent years.
I wish I could get LaCrosse boots with Fall Gray vulcanized on them. I wish Staghorn treestands out of Goshen, IN., was still in business (and if anyone's got any they want to sell, let me know!) I wish my game cart I bought had nylon straps with some sort of compression buckles or ratchets to secure the deer with... It's tough balancing those big brutes on there while negotiating hills, logs and crevices. That's all for now... I'll check back later. ;) |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
not haveing a camo option on many of the hunting accessories is my biggest one. not every one hunts from 20' up in a tree. some of us hunt other game animals, and to do so we do it from the ground. some of them see a lot better than the deer do. id just like to see a camo option on the rests and other accessories for my hunting. lots of manufacturers just give you a matt black and leave it at that. thats better than shiny but a good camo pattern like mossy oak or real tree would be a nice option. heck I wouldnt mind spending a little more for the camo vertion any way.

I bought a bow holder that attaches to my climber. So that my bow stays standing vertical. The major problem is thattheholdersits on the outside of the climbercross bar and in order for my bow to fit I MUST takethe quiver off or remove all the arrows.
Does anyone else have this problemOR is there a better holder out there that I can attach to my cross bar? |

A peep sight that doesn't rotate easily. Man, I'm drawing a blank on anything else. I'm just too laid back I guess...[8D]
Nah, You're just too easy.:D |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I can't believe boot companies don't put out boots with something better then 2 foot long laces. The freakin' laces on my Rocky boots come untied about every 500 yards when walking through thick stuff.

Not being able to find rubbers with decent lugs for traction.
Uninsulated Gore-Tex jackets without a removeable hood. Not being able to find an fanny pack for archers similar to a turkey hunters fanny pack. I like lots of pockets in my fanny pack. Also, not being able to find a multi pocket fanny pack without having velcro on it. Or velcro on anything for that matter. |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Not being able to find mud-resistant boots. It would be nice to walk through a plowed field after a rain and not carry 40 lbs. of mud up in your stand and have it randomly fall onto the dry leaves at the most inoppertune time.

Having bibs with too short of suspenders and shirt sleeves that come halfway down my arm. |

ONE of my biggest complaints is bow accessories that RUST.
The nuts and bolts should be brass or stainless, nothing worse to my eye that nuts and bolts rusting and once they start all I can do to keep the exterior looking 1/2 way decent. My other biggest pet peeve is the words "made in china" on any hunting item related package. LIKE MY BOWTECH HAT I called to request a more appropriately American made hat and was told this was a cost cutting measure taken so thatmy bow wouldn't cost too much, I replied- Mathews hats are made HERE and their bows cost the same and heck, I'll pay the extra $10.00 - at least give me the option- no dice. |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Here's one: Broadhead co's that sell their product in packages of 3. I find that really annoying! My quiver holds 6 arrows, so now I have to spend almost twice the amount to put broadheads on 6 arrows.

hate how my bow peep sight has to be trained over and over again for me.

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Cougar I have a set of browning bibs , they dont have a single pocket , not one , what were they thinking . I genraly like everything browning makes , thet spend time in good design and quality control , but bibs with no pockets , thats crazy , everything else about them is great .
Rusty bow parts are a problem , especialy a limbbolt that rusts , they should be stainlesss . Plastic sightgaurds , and pins , like to break . Stock bowstrings , unless you have a pearson , bowtech , or ross |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I have a couple.
1. Bow accesories that are expensive, yet made out of a lot of plastic. 2. Backpack straps that come with most the stands. They are most of the time junk and I always replace them. 3. Noisy backpacks. I hate packs that have noisy zippers, or the overall construction is horrendously noisy. Thats why I use Badlands packs.;) |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I'd like to get a tree ladder that had a good set of ratchet straps with it.....right out of the box. I end up replacing them all, right away.
I'd like to have a 3D deer that didn't require a hydraulic system to remove the arrows. |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I'll add noisy camo's and leafy wear. Heck I even had a pair of camo wolverine boots I couldn't wear while hunting because the pig skin near the laces would make a horrible noise if I just flexed my toes.
Keep it quiet please[8D], or it stays home... |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Just thought of another- scent lock camo's that stink.
My original camo scent lock always stank l like spray paint or 4 wheeler exhaust tome (one smell, hard to pin down). So I swore off buying into the gimmick ever again- Until no trace camo came along. NOW MY NO-TRACE SMELLS TOO . I'm not sure what smell it is picking up, but fresh from the sealed storage container it has a distinct funk to it that I can smell with my human nose. GREAT, another set of camo's I have no use for. I'll try them again next season and if the results are the same they will go in my pile of useless camo's. |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I'll say..If broadheads come in sets of 3..include 3 sets of practice blades not 1.
If a company sells an 1 pin sight that is adjustable for a variety of ranges ( such as the HHA Optimizer) They should have on thier website a program that lets you input your arrow weight, draw-length, poundage..etc and spit out a a printable yardage indicator that you can affix to the site! This way,you don't have to draw lines on your site which makes your set-up look cheesy. Even if you had to get one yardage yourself, the others have to be a relationship..of the above factors. |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
A quiet "water proof" day pack. Even the ones from Cabelas who's materials are water proof the bags will still leak because of the zippers.[:@]

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
The pins on ladder stands that rattle. I have taken to covering them with moleskin before I hunt from that stand.
Camo hoods that don't turn with my head. I can't stand being blinded by the dang things. |

RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Prices! This is better than last year, let's raise the price etc..etc..etc...When is it going to end. Will bows in 2010 cost over a grand?
|
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
I've thought this over and over and the only problem I can think of is this...
No pockets and no belt/suspenders on my ASAT Ultimate Leafy 3D Suit. Its hard to be invisible when you have to raise your jacket up to get something in your (under) pocket. And the darn pants keep falling down - not even a draw string. |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Like many of you have said- the prices of bows!
Also this year for christmas I got a new jacket that is in advantage timber(I love the pattern) but barely anything comes in advantage! I'm not buying a new coat nor am I mixing camo for my pants. I will mix camo on smaller articles like my gloves and hat but not the pants.[:@] |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
1. The lack ofTHEFT-PROOF tree stands and trail cameras. How we can change this is another story!
2. Trespassers who ignore all the warnings and ruin a good season'shunt (on my own land). 3. Constant fogging of my glasses, rangefinder and binos. |
RE: Hunting equipment pet peeves
Releases that release the arrow when you pull the trigger, right before you put the pin on the chest of a beautiful buck. [:o]My release should have known my finger was just twitching;)
Oh yeah .... VELCRO!!!! |
