RE: A deeper look into scouting whitetails.....

I never short cut on the undetected entry or exit of my stands. If they see you or detect your presence, why would they come by you?;)

So true, and one often over looked. Cutting corners so to speakand not consistentlytaking the smart way in or out ruins a high majority of set ups. I learned the hard way being bull-headed in my younger years. If your hunting a particular buck, you need to make sure you can hunt him more than just that first time in. Being able to return and hunt the same stand in the country I hunt out here is pretty important. No I dont mean hunting it day after day, but by doing those little things correctly you up your odds on seeing deer movement visit after visit to that particular set up.

Of all the lessons I've learned about whitetails, most of them have been the hard way![&:]

So true. But those are the most valuable ones too.

That's one thing that makes it such a hard learning process. You can do something right 100 times and not think about it or even notice it, but it only takes making a big mistake once to possibly cost you your shot at a good buck for the season.

Respect GregH, just like your signature!

This is one of the best threads I've seen in a while, all for the common ground.

This coming from a guy that lives in the panhandle of ID. THE most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. I met some guys on top of a mountain while out there years back. We were in a ski lodge drinking some beers and shooting the breeze. They said that they had to get going. They were sking to the bottom of the mountain and going to troll for salmon I believe in CouerD'Alene lake. They were telling us stories of bear and elk hunting. They said," What d you guys do for fun in IA?" I replied,"I don't think I have fun after meeting you guys." [&o]Shed, you can have this flatland and the best state in the nation for trophy whitetails anyday. Where you live is the closest place to heaven on earth that I have ever seen.
