Myth Busters and Scent Control
#1
Did anyone on here see this program in August? Not sure if it was talked about and I missed itbut did a search and didn't come up with anything.
Buddy of mine was here this week and he said the Myth Busters program on the Discovery Channel did an entire show on scent control products.
They used different, soaps, shampoos, clothes wash, scent loc, silver lined, etc.
Dressed guys up in the products and had them walkaround. Then had guys in street clothes do the same thing. Had bloodhounds follow the scent trails and there was no difference in the time that it took the dogs to follow and or sort out the trails.
There conclusion, it doesn't work as advertised. I know this will start a flame war but at least this is from a non-vested party using an objective trial.

Just kiddin. I am sure some of the guys that hunt could set ya up with a better scent control than the mythbusters. There are so many variables that people throw into the equation when considering scent elimination.

People are under the misconception that these cloths completely eliminate all odor, this is incorrect, they help to cut down the scent to a more "tolerable level" while you are in the woods. It does not mean that there are not trace odors still in the air from your breath, or other things. They also work best whena complete system is used, soap, shampoo, sprays, etc. Just my .02

Blood Hounds are the worst dogs to use for this experiment. Dogs in general are the worst since they survive all these yes by sniffing out wounded or dead animals.
I would rather it be done with deer and a better controled enviorment with deer. I can tell the difference when I rewear clothes verses newly washed ones. They both aren't perfect though.

Bloodhounds follow scent trails left by microscopic skin cells shed normally by the body. From what little I understand bloodhounds are even more sensitive than deer.

thats because blood hounds follow the scent from shed cells i believe amongst other things. if you put a suit on from head to toe so no face or hair is exposed and the foot gear of some ingenious material(i dont know if rubber would work) you might have a better chance. maybe a big plastic bag suit with shoes made from dirt or leaves.
