RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
It's hard to say with the video quality. It looks to me like a limb behind the doe that appears under her chin kind of is bouncing as she runs off. I think the arrow may have hit it and ricochetted into never never land. Hard to say but it looks like blood coming out low at about the same angle as it went in as sheruns off. Check the video after she gets up the trail clear of the first trees. It's a little far back. It's possible you knicked the liver but I doubt it. Too far back. You did right by waiting until morning. I think the arrow will be found to the right and further out than she was standing. Good luck.

ORIGINAL: MichaelHunsucker We got down to check the arrow out, looked like a gut shot. |
RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
Here's the reason why I only got 1 buck this entire year:
I'm not skilled enough to take the shot that was taken. It appears the doe never stopped for even a half second. I'd've just fumbled away a chance like that 'cause I'd be trying to stop the animal, and if it didn't stop, it'd walk free. I was thinking to ask if I should start taking shots like that but I already know what you guys will say... "when you're skilled enough and ready" |
RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
well, as everyone else said, the shot was a lil far back. notice the leg is about half stride to full forward and it hit maybe 6inches behind the shoulder at that position. so at best you hit the back of the lung at worst a gut shot/liver. i think she will be found in the mornin tho

RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
I may be way off base, but I'm seeing something completely different than everyone else. I think that the deer was hit in the front shoulder. She reacted to the shot before the arrow arrived. When she flinched, she spun and turned to go back toward the direction she had come and in doing so, took the arrow in her front right leg. Had she stayed where she was until impact, the shot would have hit her toward the back of the lungs or in the liver.
Something very similar happened to a hunting buddy of mine this past October, where he hit the front shoulder and the arrow broke off about eight inches from the tip. We had a very faint blood trail, backed out for 6 hours, eventually ran out of blood, and lost her. Hopefully I'm wrong andyou're able to find her. Good luck. |
RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
At first it seemed like the shot was a little far back also, but after pausing it just as the arrow is hitting, it now seems like the shot was just a tad back but only by maybe a couple inches. It still looks like it nicked the heart/lung area and probably the liver. Perhaps the gut matter is on the arrow because it passed through the guts after hitting the lung, or liver because of the downward angle of the shot?
I think the shot looks far back because the doe does turn towards the camera just before the arrow hits. Im not dead set that this is what happned because the quality of the video isnt that good, but i believe that it is a good possibility. let me see if i can get this pic to uploadof what the shot looks like to me. ![]() |

The impact snapshot that BH46 posted shows that I was wrong. My eyes must be a little fuzzy after staring at a computer screen for much of the day! [&:]
Based on the above photo, I think you'll find her in the morning. |
RE: What do you guys think? (Video)
She's dead....follow blood if you can, if not, do a grid search in the direction she went....you'll find her.
