POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I feel like I should be sending this to Ripley's Believe it or Not. OH well, here it goes. And yes it is true. I scouted a new spot this morning and found a place where 5 trails intersect. I decided on a treeand came back for the evening hunt. I wasup in my tree and settled at exactly 2:14pm. It felt like it was going to be a good day, you know when you have that feeling. At 3:05pm I hear the steps of deer in leaves over my left shoulder. I slowly turn my head enough that I can see 3 does browsing and scratching leaves for acorns. They are on full alert, but one of them makes it to within 2 feet of my tree and then they turn around and slowly go back out the way they came from and stopped at about 20- 25 yards. I tell myself to stand slowly and turn and I might get a shot on one. No more than I finish this thought in my head I see 4 more deer out to my 10 o'clock position at 30 yards- 2 fork horns and two shooter bucks (I don't know a point count, but there were alot of horns on two nice deer). My attention goes to them and I wait for them to step into a little grove of small cedar trees so I can stand up. They go into the trees, I check the does, I stand up.....POP!!!!!!!!! All I see is white flags going everywhere. I look down and the mesh that you stand onbroke on the right side of my tree stand. This stand is rated for 275 pounds. I weigh 220.
I have recommended this stand to many on here that ask about stands, but I will now have to take back all of those and any further recommendations. I plan on contacting the manufacturer as soon as the holidays are over. Any of you that own these stands please inspect them before you use them again. Here are pictures of what broke. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f300/livlian/DVC00103.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f300/livlian/DVC00102.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f300/livlian/DVC00100.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f300/livlian/DVC00101.jpg |

My Hunting Buddy tore his knee up because of that stand. The buckle came undone somehow when he was getting in the stand. Thank God he had his harness on. He called me at home on my cell phone and I had to go to the woods to help him out. His whole season was lost!

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I think Wal-Mart has something like that, and they also have a hang-on I was going to buy just to have extra stands. Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I agree with the guys above -I have a lone wolf climber and the hang on. Never a problem - and replacement parts right on their website if the need comes up.

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
thats a new one on me. first problem i'd heard of....aww crap now the rest of this season i have to set in my stand with pre-stand failure trauma. I am gonna give mine a once over tomorrow morning after seeing this, might even take it to work and weld on it some more before i camo it.

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
thw walmart stand is different but not much never had any teouble out of them that is definetly interesting
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
First, good to know that you are ok!!
second, with all the technolgy today why would they just weld the grate platform to the top of the frame only without any additional supports. Should have 2 supports not just one in the center. I have to go with evreyone on the LoneWolf products. Hope the company steps up a does the right thing good luck. |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
my friend has that stand and i like it.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I just returned from WalMarthopingto buy a Gorrilla stand on sale, they were all out of them. Thank God! Thank You for the heads up and sorry to hear about the lost buck, but I'm happy you weren't hurt.

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
My mom had just bought me the gorilla greyback for xmas, and it better not break, ive already killed 1 deer out of it so far
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
My Gorilla's are great stands!!!! I haven't had a single problem with any of them. Every brand will eventually have one or two faulty products. It rarely happens!!!! Glad to know you're alright.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I don't think I would go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a lonewolf when you can buy the new aluminum Rivers Edge that will easily hold you up and not have the same problem that a walmart special treestand has. Look into it, they are awesome. I love mine.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Sorry to hear that! I would write a letter to the company and requst a new stand!
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Glad your OK you might have got just a bad one out of the bunch . The welds shouldn't break like that if welded correctly
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Glad you didn't get hurt. It's funny though, all you hear is how many people love that stand! Personally, I wouldn't use anything but a Lone Wolf. It's light, compact, sturdy, secure and super quiet! It is pricey, but you generally get what you pay for.;)

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Welcome to the club. I tried my Gorilla on a telephone pole when I took it out of the box. It popped when I moved around on it (scraping between the mesh and the frame), so it went back to Cabela's the next day. Then I bought a Lone Wolf, which hasn't given me any trouble at all.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I used to have a stand with an expanded metal floor like that. I could never keep it quite either. The welds would pop like yours did and it would creak when it twisted with my weight. I no longer have it. Don't remember what brand it was, I got it at a garage sale.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Grated platforms are the worst in making noise IMO. Besides that, over time those little spot welds can break loose. Glad you were not hurt.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Shouldn't have stood up IMO.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
ORIGINAL: James Vee Shouldn't have stood up IMO. Thanks for all the input guys. I am going to call the company and see what they say. I looked for my receipt and can't find it so I might be out of luck on any kind of replacement. I just want them and everyone else to know so no one gets hurt. Oh and for all of you that says this is a Walmart special...it isn't. As far as I know this model was never sold at Walmart and it cost me $190. I bought it at my local archery shop and it came highly recommendedby everyone there even though they sale Summit and API. I plan on going to talk to them as well. My dad has a welding shop so my next trip to Alabama we will be welding on a solid plate of aluminum to the bottom. |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
got a buddy that welds so i think i will get him to weld it a little more on the bottom no this is the greyback the walmart special is the wolverine;)sry to hear that though i was reccomended this stand over a few summits as well but found 54 dollars worth of a wally world special taht said i was getin a better new bow

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
I have many Gorilla treestands, and I think they are all great. They stayout throughout the season and have shown very little wear to them. For the money Ihaven't been able to find better.
Every Lone Wolf is a little expensive for me, butfrom what I have heard they arethe top stands on the market and I would love to have one if I could afford it. Ialso don't use climbers though for many different reasons. |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Just one of those things, stand noise and guys take advantage to plug one. No big deal. Important thing is you didn't get hurt.
You got a good story to tell. You missed a deer and have a legitimate reason why.:DUnlike the rest of us who have to make one up.:DThat's life aye.:DHope you get something out of it. |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Found this on another site Lone wolf's aren't perfect either.
Has anyone heard of a recall on Alfa Tree Stand by Lone Wolf? Mine snapped before I was snapped in! The right bottom bolt of the hand climber snapped, the bracket swung around the tree, the bolt went flying into the woods, as the stand smacked into my left hand. All 195 pounds of me hugged the tree to work my way down. Covered in blood, with a lump on my left hand and deep scrapes all over my arms and legs. I immediately examined the Alpha Hand Climber tree stand to determine the Lone Wolf Alpha Climber tree stand relies on (4) bolts. Has this happened to anyone else? my camo...huntmdown |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
That stinks, well good luck next time

all I can say is I'd of been pissed!

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
It's so easy to blame the stand. Sorry you spooked the deer. It does happen It should have been checked and rechecked when you put it in. Besides that, they probably saw movement.
|
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
The Walmart stand is a little different. It doesn't relly look the same. It's based off of the Ol man design and it only cost me $80. I bought one for my son. I've hopped up and down on itand I weigh 210 and it has no problems. My son only weighs 100 so either way Ithink it will be fine for him. I think it's a good backup stand or nice to leave somewhereyou think it might get ripped off but It's not my first choice.

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
losing a deer because YOU did something wrong is one thing but to lose one because of faulty equipment is another. Man that sucks. You'll get'em next time.[:@][:'(]

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Every company will have products that fail. That is something that manufacturers of every product in the world have to deal with. I have summit, gorilla, and rivers edge stands and like them all. To be fair, I am a pretty small guy at only 150 pounds so maybe that has something to do with it.
MOARCHER, I don't think anyone was trying to put you down. They were just stating their opinions. I don't see the point in getting so upset. I do feel bad for you and hope you never have a product fail you and cost you a deer again or more importantly your safety. |
RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
Keep the stands with the rails for rifle hunting. Then next time you won't have to worry about standing up and having your bottom fall out.

RE: POS Gorilla Treestand cost me Buck
No, Lone Wolf has never had a treestand recall. I've designed much of the products for Lone Wolf, so I know the specifics regarding this stuff.
As far as the bolt breaking on the stand. We use only grade 8 bolts, which have never been, and will never be the weakest point on any stand. The aluminum tubes will actually tear before the bolts will break from normal use. The only way you can break one of these bolts is if you allow them to loosen up, continue to use the product, which causes the bolt to bend and/or wear after time. This is the only possible way a bolt can break on these stands. We've got the TMA test data to prove this. As far as noise is concerned, well, Lone Wolf slogan is "Your silent partner", that pretty much says it all. |
