RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
ORIGINAL: ijimmy ORIGINAL: GregH Although more record book deer are being entered now days, it's not to the extent where they are just flooding in. Even in states such as Ill. Ia, Wi, Ky and ohio, there is not a P&Y hiding behind every tree. It is still tough to get a deer that netsat 125" or above, even in these states. In short, at this time I don't think there is a problem that would require the minimums to be raised. |
RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
the P&Y club is a private organization and can do whatever they want to. They have no intrest but their own in everything they do, they are NOT the voice of bowhunters or hunters in general.
I'll never enter any animal into their book nor will I support them in anything that they do until they step up and show that they are suportive of all bowhunters. |

RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
My fatheris a pastpresident of the Pope & Young club for many years. He has spent a lot of HIS time to representthis sport and help it grow. The Pope & Young club fights to protect the sport we all love. If that isn't worth your $25.00 a year that's your decision. Maybe your opinion will change when bowhunting in your state is under fire and they are there to fight for your right to do it.My guess is that if you aren't supporting this club you probably aren't sending money to any club to help protect bowhunting. The $25.00 to enter your deer in the record book is to help publish and print the book. I would guess it takes a pretty good penny to do that. I think the $25.00 to be a member is money well spent.
No Jeff they do not support crossbows just like they don't let you enter gun kills in there book. That's what the B&C book is for. Atlas, I'm sure there are deer entered in the book that people lied about to get them entered. But if they find out about it after the fact the entry is taken out and they are no longer a member of the club if they joined. MC |

RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
ORIGINAL: BigJ12 So do I, but are you saying you have more than one business account? (or am I not understanding?) I only have one. One ledger, one bank to deposit the funds into. I do not have separate accounts for separate earnings. No.......I only have one account as well........but my money has to be tracked to multiple sources. So that when I say I made X amount of dollars from company A............it's right there in the books. I thought it was a good example of how one big business can still keep separate books quite easily. So when they spend money on grants they can claim (if they wanted to) that the money came from entry fees and it would be difficult to say otherwise. Just because they are a NPO does not mean they can't show a profit. I copied this off of the web, it explains a little about NPO's...... "Nonprofits generally do not operate to generate profit, a characteristic widely considered to be defining of such organizations. However, a nonprofit organization may accept, hold and disburse money and other things of value. It may also legally and ethically trade at a profit. The extent to which it can generate income may be constrained, or the use of those profits may be restricted. Nonprofits therefore are typically funded by donations from the private or public sector, and often have tax exempt status" It's way more complicated than I can explain. I don't know if anyone here can determine if entry fees go towards grants and conservation or not. ![]() |
RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
Atlas,
Sometime late last night (Came home a bit tipsy) I post something that I totally regret and was uncalled for. To you I apologized big time and I embarressed myself, fellow hunters and this site. My apologies, Tony |
RE: Time to raise score to qualify for P&Y?
I think you may be missing my point...........what would your accountant say if you told him that $2500 (because no one cares about $25) entry fee to P+Y was charity and therefore a deduction??........you better be able to prove it..........because I see no indication from P+Y that it goes to anything but publishing costs. The only way to know for sure is to find out howmuch it actually costs them to produce the entries including all costs from the materials, publication costsall the way down to the office fees verses what they take in from the books sales, the entries, and whatever else they provide for a cost. I was reading a little about them last night and I guess they have established a pretty nice trust fund. They didn't say where ALL of the money came from that went into the trust but they do go on to say they don't plan on dipping into it but will use the interest earned to pay for many company related expenditures including grants, etc... Want to make a ton ofmoney............start a NPO![&:] |
