RE: buck roar?
Buck Growl??
I have never used one! where I'm at the rest of the rut is overish I'd ask for a deer tag...the most important step in hunting!! |
RE: buck roar?
I bought the buck growl. I think I bought it to late to really get the right responce out of it. Some people said they have had good luck with it. From what I understand the primos buck roar may sound a little better than the Growl. I think there are two things that are key to this product. Catching Bucks in just the right mood (crusing for/chasing does) and a good buck to doe ratio. But if you have a good number of (frustated)bucks in your area it may be worth a try?
Good Luck! |
RE: buck roar?
Tell them to buy you a true talker, you will get more use out of it.
|
RE: buck roar?
I haven't tried the Primos but bought the MAD Growl call and it sucks, IMHO. If you blow too hard it sounds like a stupid duck or something. I've read the Primos is a better call and has a wheeze, which might even be more useful than a 'growl'. The Growl call doesn't seem much different than a lot of other deer grunt calls except its alot bulkier, hard plastic (noisy), and doesn't come with a lanyard. Of course it was alot cheaper than the Primos call. If I were you I'd ask for something more useful like some Xstatic clothing, new arrows, broadheads, boots, or just about anything else.

RE: buck roar?
The buck roar works! Great call! Though I still use my true talker!
|
RE: buck roar?
The Buck roar and Buck Growl both are gimmicks, you can make the same sounds with the Tru Talker.
|
RE: buck roar?
well heres proof how well the buck growl works.
|
RE: buck roar?
and another view...
|
RE: buck roar?
I dont know if they filmed in a game farm or what, but one of the primos tapes had the most dominant bucks running at the wheese. They grunted a few times and got little attention, then they wheesed and the whole attitude of the deer changed,he wanted a fight!
|
RE: buck roar?
I had good luck with my Buck Growl. You can just grunt with it if you want. There are far more versatile calls on the market, but I'll continue to carry mine. I was very skeptical of the Growl, but it worked once, thats all I needed from it.

RE: buck roar?
My cousin bought the buck roar and he grunted in 2 or 3 bucks every night during the rut..he said it was awesome!!!
|
RE: buck roar?
Sounds like mom and dad are a couple of tight a$$es. All they will spring for is a 10 dollar call.
I used the buck roar and like it. |
RE: buck roar?
there not tight they just dont want to buy a bow or a ml
|
RE: buck roar?
If you were my son.....I'd talk you into letting me buy you more arrows.....a treestand......or something I thought you might get some use out of. Our buck/doe ratio might not be what yous is.....but a buck here would be a dumb to leave his area to fight for a doe when there's 5 in his thicket! Also....I've never heard a buck "growl" or "roar". Chances are my herd hasn't, either.
I'm not saying they don't work. Heck.....I'm sure they do (or people THINK they do). Same as buck bombs/c'mere deer......(& realtree hardwwods 'll make you VANISH!!...lol). Jeff |
RE: buck roar?
sorry for the double post.
|
RE: buck roar?
are buck doe ratio aint very good here i thought about a tree stand but my dads theory is that trees are made to look at not hunt in but i still doi have 2 homemade ones but i want a good one
|
RE: buck roar?
I heard the new buck roar/growl calls have the deer trained to think corn is under your stand.....do you like bait hunting????
On a serious note I would ask for some new boots or a treestand that is on sale. Or keep pushing for the muzzle loader. I bought one that was on sale last week and let me tell you that is some fun! Do a bunch of yard work and things that you are not asked to do and keep doing it, they will break down. |
RE: buck roar?
I have the buck roar, and couldn't get it to work for me. Three times I had bucks just out of range, twice they were by themselves. When I 'roared', they would stop and look, but then but their head down and keep walking.
Maybe a 'hot' doe walked through earlier, I don't know. But I would recommend getting a True Talker and the can (if you don't already have one). I have had ALL kinds of luck using these two....especially together. |

RE: buck roar?
my dad dosent care if i hunt in one he just dosent want to
|
RE: buck roar?
I'm usually pretty skeptical when it comes to new stuff. I even made fun of the growl until I seen it in action. I humbly went and purchased one. In one weeks time I called in 5 different bucks. I will admit that I didn't use it so much as a growl as a grunt. I think it makes an awesome grunt. I would recommend it to anybody.

RE: buck roar?
Just because you blow on the end of something labled deer call doesnt mean deer are going to be tripping all over each other to find it.DANG!
learn how to speak the language with it.Its just a tool,Learn how to make it work for you.And deer have moods, there a little bit like women, sometimes you have to push differant buttons to get what you want. |
RE: buck roar?
Your parents kinda sound like a bunch of jerks, are they anti hunting or what!

RE: buck roar?
no there cool my dad hunts he just dosent bow hunt he is a rifle hunter and he dosent use stands
|
RE: buck roar?
I have found it doesnt matter what the buck to doe ratio is on the property your hunting is. Our buck to doe ration this year from observation was terrible,2 bucks to every 10 does. Now hows that for a crappy ratio. If you use thegrowl at the wrong time youll get bad results, this is a rut call nto an all season call. I found that it has worked best from late oct-mid nov and thats it. Anytime before or after is bad. Sure you may get the bucks to stop and look but they wont respond untill the rut hits. But this is a call I would and have recomended to ANYONE!
