RE: is hunting a sport?

It's sporting. Most sports that have two adversaries, both teams know the rules, when the game starts/ends, what they are competing for, etc. I guess hunting is a sport, but it is a sport where one team doesn't really know they are playing for a while, if at all. It is a battle between two adversaries only they are battling for different things, one isplaying for a trophy(whateverthe individual considers a trophy) andone of is playing for their life.

"I" just always assume sports are played by athletes.

But...if it's more of what's been described here......and even marbles fits that billing....I'll concede.

Sport it is!

Lets see now....

- It's often referred to as an outdoor sport
- It's sometimes referred to as a blood sport
- Avid hunters are often called sportsmen.
- Hunters buy their equipment in sporting goods stores.
- A popular hunters magazine is called Sports Afield.
- A popular tv show that often features hunting is The American Sportsman.
-What we do iscalledsport hunting to differentiate it from commercial hunting.

It's a sport. There is absolutely no question about it!

if you dont like it than dont read it...
and if it so pointless, why is there over 5 pages of posts and 74 votes?
They have a young hunter forum for guys your age, maybe you'd get even more pages of responses over there. Do you think that 5 pages is a lot? LOL You get my point. It wouldn't surprise me if your next poll was "Boxers or Briefs"[:-]
boxers-camo boxers ,miss archery lettered in dance line and swears that`s a sport (I disagree just to get a rise out of her)

I think it depends on the person?
Dependsfor what reason there hunting?
Many yrs ago when folks had to survive using a bow i don`t think they called it a sport then?
But todays bowhuntinghas changed.
For many it`s nothing more than a challenge!a "sport" .. For others its not a sport at all? It becomes something different much more than a sport, or a hobby, itsway of life anda deeppassion.
Like i sead just depends on thehunter?(imo)

It's always been considered a sport, why change it now? Webster's definesSport as: A particular activity as (hunting or an athletic game) Sporting is defined as: Bred or trained for use in Hunting (a sporting dog) But in my Dad's case, I think thats what he had in mind!!

RE: is hunting a sport?

I voted no. They way some of you describe sport, you could call anythinga sport. Hell walking could be defined as a sport by some of you. Is war a sport? I am sure some of you might think so.Hunting is a recreational activity, but not a sport. If you wanted to walk around punching people in the face for no reason you could call it boxing. But most sports have "people" that compete against one another. Where there is a winner and a loser, and there are rules that each competitor must adhere to. This doesn't describe hunting to me.
