Default Question.... Would you rather....

Question on where you would hunt...

If you had to decide between hunting an area of 300 acres with a low deer population with "trophy" potential or an area of 300 acres with a high deer population and real low "trophy" potential which would you choose AND WHY????

*Lets define "Trophy" as 140+ class buck.

*Lets define low population as 10 deer per square mile. Example
Saskatchewan....

*Lets define high population as 30+ deer per square mile. Example West Virginia....

I guess it would depend on what Im looking to get out of it.. If I was wanting meat,, the high population. But pesonally for me, I be hunting the trophy potential. I personally try to only shoot mature bucks, and if I need meat will take a doe, and normally have meat in the freezer. Hopefully, I would have access to both properties so I oculd go fll the freezer early season in the highly populated area, then be in the trophy area come the rut to fill the buck tags..

Well let's think about this for a minute.

There are 640 acres in one square mile.

That would mean there are five deer on that first300 acres.

That also means there are 15+ deer on the opposite 300 acres.

I would take the higherpopulation acreage.

Just because there is little trophy potential [initially]doesn't mean that that potential couldn't be increased.

Theres a lot more to consider, but keeping things simple, thats how I would go.

Low population trophy deer, why because I'm always looking for a better trophy!

High pop...I'd rather go for more excitement of seeing more deer. I don't care how big they are. Maybe I'll change my mind down the road.
