Default Loving Iowa Already w/ pics....

I know this deer was taken with a shotgun, but I spend the majority of my time in the bowhunters forum, so I thought I would share it with everyone.

This past year I moved from Wisconsin to Iowa, so this was my first year shotgun hunting Iowa.Saturday morning I shot this guy at about 7:00a.m. Because I moved in the middle of archery season, I bowhunted Wisconsin and shotgun hunted Iowa. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to bowhunting Iowa next year.

I'm up in the air about what to do for a mount. The guys in the group would like to see a shoulder mount done on him (I wouldn't mind either). But I've seen bigger ones bowhunting and hunt every weekend fromSeptember to December. Iam determined to get a bigger one (especially now in Iowa), therefore I'm thinking a Euro. What do you think or what would you do.

Nice deer! Nice and high. My opinon (if it counts) is if you don't have a bigger one cape it out and freeze it if you don't get a bigger one this year take it to the taxidurmist with a picture and have it done. My dad always told me get your first deer mounted as you can never get your first deer again and then mount a bigger deer as you get them. I wish I listened and got my first mounted but I have been getting the deer mounted if it is bigger then the last one I had mounted. just my 2 cents. Good luck. Mike

Nice Buck, Congrats! Euro are nice, as someone else said above, cape it out, freeze it and and if you dont get a bigger one, then take it in. But thats a nice buck, worthy of being Mounted for sure.

That's a nice deer. Is it your best one so far? If so, you may want to mount it. It looks like a great 2 1/2. Obviously, if you keep at it in that area, you'll definately get a bigger one. But who knows when. If you like it well enough, mount it. This hard choice is yours. My first mounted one was smaller than that by over 10 inches.
