why are the deer so small in florida?

My brother & sis in law lived in Key West. They were always on the outlook for Key deer. They are as small as a medium size dog. I assumed it was the vegetation down there? Not really sure though.

PA.. it's more like one of those "jack of all trades; master of none" things...
Though technically my undergraduate degree is a bachelor's of science in journalism with an emphasis in writing news and editorial content, and I also hold a master of arts in English with an emphasis in teaching rhetoric and composition.
I was seriously contemplating law school when I struck out on a totally different path and began my own business, which I later expanded to 17 states. I currently work in the field of medical sales.
But all that is to support my bowhunting passion...

For the same reason Candadian deer are larger... The phenomenon is known as Bergman's rule, whereraces of warm-blooded vertebrates from cooler climates tend to be larger than races of the same species in warmer climates.
And you guys thought I was just a pretty face!

You can disagree with the properties of science all ya want... Have at it!
You can argue gravity doesn't exist while jumping off a 10-story building... all the way until we hear the splat!

Actually the body size of Texas deer are pretty small compared to northern deer. Look at the body sizes of bucks from Saskatchewan compared to Texas, it's no comparison.
Texas grows big racks on small deer if you ask me.

That's pretty much what he said.. The bodies are larger and the deer are heavier further north.. Racks have a lot to do with nutrition and genetics.
