hunting in ice!!! IL

Ok, so they kept calling for all this snow.. Well it's in the 20's and pouring rain and sleeting. It's our second shotgun season, went out today and for the first time all year didn't see anything..
Anyway, I can hear tree lims crashing all around the neighborhood and several powerlines have gone down.. Plus they still say it's going to snow on top of A LOT of ice..
Question is do you guys think it's really unsafe to be hunting in the woods? Or from a deerstand.. If you went would you just hang out in a field somewhere or what.. Not sure what I'm doing yet, guess we'll see what it looks like in the am but just curious on everyone elses feelings.

I'd find a good trail leading to food. Wednesday I had two bucks and a doe that weretoo far out for a shot hanging around the cut corn fields. A friend had 8 doe and a big 8pt come into a corn field but never presented a shot. This was in Ogle county. I'll go out again next week when I can take the bow. Good luck should be a good weekend!

I hunted today in the ice, snow, sleet and 18 degree weather. I saw more deer today than I have any other day this year. I saw three really nice bucks but I was rifle hunting so I decided to let them go. But yes, definately get out there. However, be very careful getting into your stand. Trust me those steps will be super slick.

If you have a ground blind use that. otherwise build one out of limbs and stuff. I wouldnt go up in a tree with all this ice. Even if you use a climber it could slip on the ice on the tree. I bet they will move though if the ice lets up. Good luck and be careful.

I lost power after I posted last night and just got it back as the sun was coming up this morning.. Looked outside and I had trees on my garage, deck and front porch.. Not to mention I had lost my phone line to a large tree branch.. I started to go but the roads have about a 2 inch thick layer of solid ice on them. Called the land owner and he saidhe could see and hear branches braking and falling all around him.. SO, I decided not to go.. Just pretty bummed.. We really only got about an inch of snow.. Man it was like 25 degrees last night and pouring rain, I've never seen anything like it before.. Just north and west of here they got over a foot of snow.. Kind of messed up my hunting plans this morning but I'll be out there tonight and the rest of the weekend.. Better start cleaning up I guess, thanks for the replies..
