best expandable broadhead in you opinion
im looking for a really good expandable broad head, that flys like a feild tip, than opens apon contact,
any thoughts, on some really good ones, would be greatly appreciated! |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I have heard that RAGE broadheads are pretty good but havent shot them...
They are supposed to fly like a field point and open on contact, so it souds like what your looking for. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I say spitfire expandables 100 grain 1 1/2 cd ,I have killed deer with it and every entrance hole is as big as the exit hole.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
i think im gonna go with the rage broadheads, i just dont know what the diffrecnce is between a 3 blade and a 2, how do you decide between the 2?
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
Snypers or Rage. Best expandables on the market, both the 2 or 3 blade will work fine. I've taken 15 deer with my 2 blade snypers and have no complaints. I haven't shot the Rage but have friends that do and they are wicked on deer.

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I have used Roctets, Spitfires, and a few others and really liked the Spitfires and had pretty good results in the past I went to the Rage 3 blade this year and hit a big doe high, bounce of a rib and shattered her spine. Great entry hole and downed deer. A few weeks ago I shot a main frame 9 pt. with 2 stickers (narrow spread, though) and hit behind the left shoulder and exited out front of right shoulder. Unbelievable entry and exit. Massive blood. Went about 60-70 yards. Of course I would have expected that with any broad head with that shot placement but so far, no complaints. I would like to try the 2 blade, also.

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
hmm i dont know wich way to go...
you would think the 3 blade does more damage? |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I started using Spitfires last year and they have been flawless for me.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I LOVE SPITFIRES!!!! 100 gr
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
i shoot jackhammers from wasp and have had great cuts with them and easy to clean after a kill

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
Snypers all the way for me. I have shot5 deer , a coyote and a few groundhogs with the the Snyper 2 blades. All I can say is that the entrance and exit wounds are devastating. I just shot a nice 9 pt. a few weeks ago and my one hunting buddy that came out to help me with atking pics and getting him out of the woods couldn't beleive the damage that my Snyper did. I shot doe last year with the 3 blade and it worked the same magic as the 2 blade. You can't go wrong with either. The Rage heads are basically a little fancier version of the Snypers. From what I have heard Rocky Mtn. heads ( Barrie Archery) were bought by another company and they made a few changes to the Snyper and called it the Rage. A little different looking for more money??? I will stick with the Snypers. They haven't failed me yet.

NAP Spitfires

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
i know you probably want to use expandables but stick with fixed blades. they are much better in my opinion and the people i talk to
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I've been shooting spitfire's for 2 seasons and I put my hands on fire for them, they're GREAT.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I've used Spitfires and harvest quite a few deer with them. They are impressive to say the least. Instant blood trails, all complete pass thrus, blood sprayed 3ft, a blind guy could follow the blood trail.
Check on your states regulations before you buy any expandables. The Rage 2 blade is a 2" cutting diameter I believe. I know in my state that is not legal to use for hunting big game. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
they`re illeagal in mn. as well, but if they were I would still use nap spitfires
|

NAP Spitfires!

ORIGINAL: ABarOfSoap ORIGINAL: Cougars09 i would shoot three if your bow will allow how will i know if my bow will allow? i shoot 56 lbs... If you are going to shoot a mechanical with that bow I'd pick a 1 1/4" head. Stay away from the 2" cut because you won't get good penetration. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I shoot some from Gold tip, not sure what they are called but they are cheap you can pick them up on ebay for about $10-$12 for 3.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
Here is another vote for the two blade Snypers, especially at your draw weight. They have a cut to the tip design and the blades slide rearward instead of camming open like most heads so the blades deploy quite easily.

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I shoot and love the Innerloc EXP 100 3 blade. This boardhead has two cutting di, just by flipping the collar.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
At 56 lbs I would stick with a cut on contact, fixed blade broadhead.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I shoot the 100 grain spitfires but there is something to be said about the rage expanables. I have a couple family members that shoot them and they look to work pretty darn good.

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I agree with Rob. At 56# there is not a good expandable. If you are wanting a B/h that flies like your field tips you need a well tuned bow. However, give one of these heads a try I have found them to be a little more forgiving than some of the bulkier fixed blade heads. Slick Tricks, sonics, or Wasp boss bullets. I have had good experiences with all the above and they all fly great. Hope this helps but I would def. stay away from the expandables at you 56# pull.

RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
NAP spitfire is my choice. I have used them for years and love the way they perform.
I am shooting a 70 lb. bow and i'm sure that makes a difference. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
do you think my bow can shoot the snypers, ive had trouble with regular broadheads shooting diffrently than the feild tips, and these seem like they shoot the exact same, i use montec g5s and everyone says they shoot thesame but itsdefinitley diffrent with me
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
Sounds to me like your bow may just be out of tune. Do the G5's group well?
If you are attempting to use the mechanicals because the fixed blade heads don't hold groups you are taking a band aid approach to solving the problem IMO. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
my feild tips group 4 inches below the g5s from 20 30 and 40 yards,
also some of them make noise when you shoot, and some dont. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
Do they hold a group or are the arrows sprayed around the target? As far as the noise, have you checked to make sure the vanes are securley glued in place? A flopping vane will make some noise.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I have had noise and inacuracy problems with rubber band systems as well, when I ran out of rubber bands I used what ever kind of rubber band I could find to secure the broadhead until contact and there were noticable differances from the sound of one band to the next. That was a gander mt. brand that didnt sell replacement bands. This is why I switched to spitfires and there is no more noise durring flight than a field tip.Whichever brand you choose don`t go cheap, get a good expandable that does`nt require binders an bypass many problems.

Never assume a broadhead, fixed or not, will fly the same as your field tips inspite of all the reports, figure on ruining one just to test them out of your bow. This year I have Muzzy's, field tips, Sonics and Snypers all flying together, next year I will still test fire them again prior to hunting regardless of where my field points are hitting and how well my bow is tuned. I still want that garuantee. |
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
100 grain NAP spitfires without a doubt.
|
RE: best expandable broadhead in you opinion
I would stay with fixed blades with 56#. My choice of expandable is the 100gr Steelhead from Rocket Aerohead (now owned by someone else). I have shot my last dozen or so buck with this broadhead (pull 70#) and have good pass throughs and good blood to follow when needed. Again, good shot selection plays a role.
