Checked by a Warden last night

When I got out of the woods last night there was a warden waiting by my truck. He wanted to check my liscense and permits. While he was checking them he kept repeating my name. He asked me, "do I know you? Have I checked you before?" I replied, "well, I'm kind of a famous Buck hunter, maybe you've heard of me. I'm on the internet." He gave me a real strange look and I started laughing. Then I asked him, "what do you think?" He laughed and gave my liscense back then offered me a piece of his venison jerky. He was a good guy once the ice was broken.[:-]

Sounds like you hit it lucky. Some of the local Barney Fife's are quite power mad and seem to enjoy harassing hunters.

Most of them are real good guys around here if your friendly. When I lived in York, PA we used to fish the susquehanna at night for catfish and they would always come to check us at some point in the night and usually they would hang out for a while and shoot the breeze with us and watch us drink beers and catch fish. Most of the time, they are full of great information on good spots to go as well and are usually willing to share info if your friendly. I actually like bumping into them and am yet to find one that wasn't friendly.

The last time I got checked I got a ticket for "attempting to take a deer with a rifle during special bow season."

What happened was I had got a doe a few days before with my bow and by the time I found it some yotes had it tore to pieces. So I was waging war on the yotes. This guy was just dead set that I had shot a deer with a rifle.
Even though he found no deer, heard no shot, and when he saw me I had my 30-30 with fixed 4x scope, in blue jeans, standing in a field, with a coyote call in my pocket!
So we go to court and he came over and talked to me a while and realized I was telling him the truth. He asked the judge to drop it and he got my rifle back for me.

Since then we have actually taught some Hunter's Ed classes together.

Our local game wardens are usually pretty good, it's the county cops that are on a power trip. I got checked while hunting a few years ago, and now everytime I see the same guy he just waves and goes on.

My local GW is a she!! Not just a she, but a very attractive she!! C.O. Heidi Murphy is a pleasure to talk with, is very knowledgeable and very friendly. She could ask to check my license every day and I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's nice when you can have a conversation with a warden and they make you feel like they are on your side as a hunter/fisherman/trapper as opposed to looking for any reason at all to give you a citation.

Only time i ever get checked around here is during opening weekend of dove season. I never get to really talk with them though cause I hunt in one of the prime areas of the state and they run around all day checking people. Then i never see them for the rest of the season.

I got checked 3 times in the same year by the same warden, all on different property. He was always nice, seemed like a cool guy.

I live in Oklahoma and have to agree. I see them everywhere during dove season and then not so much througout the remainder of the year. I wish I would see more of them, perhaps that would slow down some of the road hunters around here.
