RE: Midwest Bowhunters?
I just forget about hunting in the mornings after rifle season. I have had my best luck in the evenings on food sources. If it gets real cold then there is the chance you could catch them when they are hearding up and you can see an obscene amount of deer.

Yep, I can't wait for gun season to end here in michigan. I love driving back on state land where there were 50 gun hunters all season and shooting big deer that they were, too loud, smelly, and drunk to get. It makes for really peaceful hunting. By far the best of the year in my opinion. Just gets a little chilly somtimes.

RE: Midwest Bowhunters?
Oops in my rant I forgot to answer your question. I usually hunt on the edge of a huge bedding area(swamp) on major trails leading to 50 acres of mature oaks. They have about ten big trails leading into it. I rotate and hunt a different one every day. I see deer 9 out of 10 sits.

RE: Midwest Bowhunters?
By late season there is usually snow on the ground so seeing which trails the deer are using is easy.
If the snow is deep it will cut down the number of trails the deer will be using. They tend to use the trail already worn in the snow. Plus they are a lot easier to see in time to get ready for the shot. Blood trails are easier to follow too. I LOVE HUNTING IN THE SNOW! |
RE: Midwest Bowhunters?

RE: Midwest Bowhunters?
I concur with most on here...food sources. Right after the rut, really from now until the second week of december, you can still see some bucks looking for does, but they will begin to hit food sources again soon, so I've already begun hunting the food sources. Good luck, there's a lot of great bucks that will still be out there.

RE: Midwest Bowhunters?
around here un cut corn fields late season is the ticket. Best when the weather is very cold and then the next day it warms up and the snow starts to melt a bit.
