Sounds like you two had a fantastic time! Glad to hear the trip was a success, even without a kill.

That sounds like fun! I used to do some hunting in Tennessee and enjoyed the weather there this time of year. I always wanted to give NC a try.

RE: Headed to NC

First off I need to apologize to frmcntry. I left my phone at my office and wasn't able to receive his calls on Friday afternoon. Rob didn't get into town in time to meet for dinner, Friday....so it wouldn't have worked out, anyways.

It's funny when you invite someone in to hunt with you. I'd never done so.....mainly because I don't know too many people that hunt the way I hunt....and secondly due to the VERY delicate manner in which I have to approach the landowners in my area. I practice what I call "suburban deer hunting". If you've never done it......let me just say it's LIKELY, COMPLETELY different than hunting the way most of you do. "My" resident deer pop. handles pressure differently. They handle people, relatively well (they know the noises they're used to....AND the ones they AREN'T used to), they handle auto traffic.....BUT they don't respond to calls and scents. Period. It's foreign to them....and they won't put up with it.

When I invited Rob down.....I had intentions on taking him into my primo spot. I see tons of deer , there.....but they're usually smaller....as are ALL of the deer in my area.....due to the sheer numbers of them. I talk on this forum about the numbers of deer I see.....and I sometimes wonder if people think I'm serious. I was feeling a little pressure when Rob got here....and that was compounded by the fact that the landowner didn't want me to take anyone into my honey hole. Now I'm scrambling. i got access to basically 2 back yards with woods in them (for an afternoon hunting spot).....and my fears were alleviated when Rob saw 40 deer, there. No kidding. I saw 16 from the perch I was in. I was in some thick cover, though.....so I knew a shot opportunity would be hard-pressed. We needed 2-3 more minutes to have shooting light in the morning. Big 'ol doe was broadside at about 6 yds......I needed 2 more minutes. Rob saw 13 in the morning.....well worth the price of admission in itself.

I rode Rob by the place we were going to hunt Saturday, on Friday evening. It made me look like I knew what I was talking about when we saw a dandy buck standing there with several other deer. I've now got my eye on that guy.

It was good to meet a teammate in person....and find another person that hunts the same way I do.....that has the same core ethics I do........that respects these magnificent animals the way I do.......that hunts the way we do.....

It was a great weekend, deer aside. We'll get on some Gobblers in the Spring....when my friend Rob and his lovely wife head back to the tarheel state. We're looking forward to it, already.

Jeff

Keith I really am sorry. I just didn't have a way to contact you. Your number was in my phone.....which I didn't have.
